19" tires

O.z. Wheels are usually under 3k, so it makes sense if the price is right on tires. As joe says, though, I don't see the benefit unless the tires are cheaper?

For me the 19's are for better tier choice and if they are a little less cost all the better. HRE is working with me on proper fitment for the 19's will let you all know when finished.

Which tires? Hoosier R6's come close, as do R888, but only with the decreased diameter, and in another thread, it was mentioned that Hoosiers didn't perform any better than the MPSC2 on the 991GT3. I really do hope someone finds a cheaper setup. MPSC2s are really damn expensive for 4 track days of use.

Has anybody tried the OZ 19"s for the 997.2 RS? The rear offsets are the same. But the fronts are 997 47mm vs 991 55mm. It's not much of a difference. The OZ 20" wheels are the same fitment between the 997 and 991.

Not in general. I had great success on the 991S with them. Specifically on the 991GT3. It was said in this thread by some reliable sources:

Nevermind. I see what you are getting at now. They are saying that the tires don't didn't work well on the car for some odd reason and lap times suffered. I wonder why that would be?

I always thought the 18" felt better due to higher tire wall on bumpy tracks (Sebring). I wonder if 19" or 20" on RS will be better than OEM size on bumpy tracks.
I don't trust low profile 30-35 R6, maybe the R7 are sturdier but I think the low profile R6 just cant handle the weight / bumpy track. I've seen way to many failures and crashed because of it.
I prefer the sturdy tire carcass of the ultra high performance street tires.

I too am concerned about the cost if replacing MPSC2s every 4 track days. I had looked into trofeo Rs as I heard they give you an extra second per lap, but my understanding us that the trofeos don't last as long as the MPSC2s, but cost is similar.
I'm still working on my track technique so I don't want to waste money on crazy expensive tires until my skills improve, but I don't want to run on unreliable or unsafe tires.
Can you all recommend a solid track tire that gets you 90% of the MSPC2 performance for 50% of the cost?

However, I think I was reading on thus forum, that the MPSS have issues with irregular wear and chunking of the tires with track use?

MPSS are not even in the same zip code as MPSC2. I've been less than impressed with MPSS tires on track. I'm not sure why so many people seem to rave about them. They grip no better than the prius tires on my BRZ. This isn't seat of the pants BS, it's solid accelerometer data.
