Tires rub at low speed on turns?
Hello all, I tried to search this with no luck. I have noticed that when I make a turn at low speed, such as parking or backing out of my drive with a 3 point turn that I notice a "rubbing" and jumping from the front.
This is very much the same as a 4 wheel drive truck on dry pavement in how it fights to turn. Yesterday, I actually got out to check my fenders to see if the tires caught the inner lip, but that is not the case.
I am not turning the wheel to full "lock" when this is happening.
Has anyone else experience this? Does anyone know the cause?
The car is equipped with axle life, however it is not active at this point ( no need)
On the road, I have no issues, however the wheel is turned much less at speed.
Thanks in advance for any input
Rich

I believe this might be the "acorn" effect that afflicts all 991s.

I experience something similar, exactly as u said driving forward or backing up steering wheel turned but not fully locked. But the difference with me is not a rubbing jumping issue, I actually hear a load WOOOOOOOO coming from the front end. once speed is picked up the sound goes away.
At this stage I am guessing its from the PCCBs, because I have the exact same sound that occurs at the exact same situation with my Ferrari Scuderia. It has CCBs too.
Do you guys have any other thoughts of what it might be?
To the OP my apologies for highjacking your thread.

It's normal and will become more pronounced in cold temperatures.
Nothing to worry about.

It's normal (happening on my 981 too) and gets more noticeable in cold temperatures.

Summer tires on cold pavement. It will go away in April.

Thanks for all the replies. I picked it up in late October, and noticed the "skipping" fairly soon after. I will check for blue shipping blocks, but I will say, I have been driving it in 35 degree weather. Yes the tires are not optimal for winter driving, but I can't resist. Yes either I wait until April for a thorough test, or ship it out west or down south and drive the winter where its warm. That actually sounds like a good plan!!!
What is the "acorn" effect? I never heard of this so please elaborate.
Thanks again

Yes, the acorn effect. Several threads on it in the 991 section. I had one of the first 991s to come over to the states and I thought for sure there were something wrong with my car until I learned the crackling and jumping are standard procedure. Wind buffeting is also included free of charge.

I also see that the castor on these cars is very sensitive (factory setting 9'30") and I was told by Porsche Motorsports that this was because the wheel is a very tight fit in there and on hard lock the tyre can come into some contact with the inner guard liner now they have fitted the mesh (it wasnt on the car when I picked it up a year ago). If you feel its happening a bit more than it should go and have your alignment checked and ask the dealer for the factory spec so you can get the dealer to check the front castor - its doesnt need to be out by much to make the type touch earlier....
Rest easy as its normal (at least with most I have talked too). Just another 991 GT3 trait like the gearbox rattle, no creep etc.
