On the US configurator, there are two kinds of buckets-- Lightweight Bucket Seats (photo #1) and Lightweight Bucket Racing Seats (photo #2). The description states the seats are identical except for firmer foam on the latter. The German site shows the same seats. Does anyone know anything more about these?
My understanding is that in ROW, a 918 Spyder customer for a Weissach Package model will be able to order the Lightweight Bucket Racing Seats in flame-resistant seat covers (attached photo). They may come with alcantara inlays...or not. This fabric is the same type of material previously offered by Porsche on their 997 era non-reclining sport buckets for the gt3 RS's in ROW. The fabric is lighter than leather and designed for race track application. For reasons only known to US DOT authorities and PAG, that material is apparently not approved for US seats as OEM. So PAG will not offer the lighter, flame-resistant fabric on the seats to its US 918 customers.

re: Seat Padding.
PAG offers the 918 Spyder with 'lightweight bucket seats' as standard. However, they also offer these options on that model:
a) extra seat padding (option code 871)
b) firmer padding on driver's side only (option P10).
c) electric height adjustment for passenger side (its standard on driver's side). That is option 543 and not available in US 918 models.
d) 6 point seat belts (option P14)
e) electric comfort heating (option 649).

But strangely the description on the GT3 configurator reads mostly like the regular 918 buckets (apart from the line about low seat surface / centre of gravity). (FWIW, the Canadian GT3 configurator still does not list buckets even though they can be ordered.)

Just thought I'd throw this out there for interest and any comments.
I anticipate that PAG will only offer the standard (regular) 918-type seats in the US 991 gt3. We will see if they give us more options when/if the 991 gt3 RS is available to US customers.

Just some feedback on fit as I spent a small amount of time in a 918 this weekend. The car had the Weissach package and I found them comfortable, probably a little more padding than what I would ideally want, but actually preferred them over the 18 way seats.

I'm 6'4" 225 lbs, size 44L business suit (34/35 waist depending on how many business dinners that week).

Very happy that I had my slot pushed back to make the seats happen.

For those concerned that fixed-backrest bucket seats will be uncomfortable on long trips, don't be. I was worried too but I've had some 10 hour days in the saddle and they are perfect. Not once have I wished to alter the backrest. The adjustable steering column means you can get your reach just right, then you are good to go.

Thanks for this! Were they narrower or about equivalent to the 18-ways?

I would say about the same, they feel narrower because you have more upright support, but they weren't in anyway uncomfortable.

Thank you!

I sat in the 18-ways in a 2014 GT3 over the weekend and they weren't the most comfortable seats and I have Recaros in my other cars, so with your input, I figured the buckets can't be much worse.

I've changed my order and I'm now getting the buckets, lol.

Now it's time for me to lose some weight. I have until January (although the holidays will be a bit tough). It's a good incentive

Did your original production date move up? That is the earliest lightweight sport seat production date I have heard of.....the only dates that have been thrown around to me have been 1st week of Nov. I guess the day after body shop entry it will be Nov anyways?

Mine enters body shop 10/31 also but my lightweight bucket sears got kicked out. Couldn't change build date any later so ok with 4 way std seats. Have gt2 seats in my 2007 gt3. Wife happier with heated std seats. Not meant to be for me. Later May outfit track seats in after see what Porsche techquipment in the spring presents an aftermarket seat.

My original production date was earlier but I think they were able to move it back to get the buckets.
