Default 918 Type Sport Bucket Seats appear on German gt3 website!

As reported today by Rennteam forum member Rotbart:

"Just found the 918 seat option on the German GT3 price list, probably available for MY 2015 cars."

Rotbart also posted the gt3 parts page (first attachment below). It doesn't appear to be the tilt forward (like gt2 type), so same as found on the 918. The gt2 tilt forward sport bucket seats appear to remain an option in Germany and probably ROW, thus giving owners a choice if they need to access rear of cabin. The 918 sport bucket seats come with an integrated thorax air bag!

These 918 type seats were created by Thorsten Klein, a designer for Porsche (see patent & photo of Thorsten below). He is a friend and fellow R Gruppe member!

After all of our speculation, it's nice to see that they are finally here! Let's see how soon PCNA shows it as an option on the MY2015 gt3 for North America! They are expected to be either standard or an option for sure in the MY2015 gt3 RS for NA!

Eduardo,

Do you know if these potential USA MY 2015 GT3 CF seats have a reclining backrest? Or are they like my 2011 Spyder seats where there is one fixed, and very upright, position.

Thanks. John

Default Caution: We don't yet know if US DOT will approve these seats for US 991/981!

Don't have that information yet.

The 918 type 'sport bucket seats' can move up & down and tilt back & forth. That should give all of us the adjustability that we all expect from these type of seats...and its a major improvement over the gt2-type sport buckets!

I do want to warn everyone that we are not out of the woods yet re: US DOT approvals. In the US version of the 918 model, the initial production was going to have adjustable (up & down, plus tilt) drivers seats, but fixed passenger seats! PCNA was working with US DOT to allow that adjustability for passenger sport bucket seat too (just like available as option on every 918 model in ROW!). Apparently there was an issue re: to location of dash airbag on that model relative to location of passenger seat & ability to go up/down or tilt. I don't know if PCNA has gotten approval for an adjustable sport bucket seat yet on the passenger side of its 918 US model.

Furthermore, we really don't know yet how US DOT will react to this 918 type 'sport bucket seat' on the US 991 or 981 models! We are hopeful it will be approved...but that is only 'hope'. But as you all know, there has NOT yet been an official announcement from PCNA that these 918 type 'sport bucket seats' are approved by US DOT for any US model other than the 918!

Eduardo

The seats look great. I had a boxter spyder with fixed bucket seats and I was fine with it. In fact loved it. I want my GT3 yes...2014 back home first. I will worry about the seats later. Heck I can always change them.

From the German GT3 configurator

Lightweight race seat with folding backrest, integrated thorax airbag and manual length adjustment. Seat shell of glass and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (GRP / CFRP), surface in visible carbon fiber, seat cover in smooth leather finish in interior color. Note: In conjunction with sports bucket seats child restraint systems may be used.

Correct. The seat in attachment below is the one we are principally discussing in this thread and apparently doesn't yet appear in the German configurator! This type of seat is now called "sportschalensitz" (Sport Seat Shell) in the parts diagram posted in Rennteam. The gt2 type sport bucket is referred now as the "Vollschalensitz" or "Full Cup Seating?".

The fact they are still offering the GT2 alongside the 918 seats makes me think the 918 seats are replacement for the CGT seats that were available for 997.2 GT3/RS in ROW. Not sure how much the CGT seats cost in ROW when ordered as an option with the car, but here in US Suncoast was selling them aftermarket for $17k if I remember correct. Let us hope this one is cheaper.

Beautiful seats but the price is getting a little nutty.
The good thing is that hopefully they will all filter down to the lower models eventually.
