I realize the gt3 is probably a good compromise, but it's still a compromise.. You can get a used Cup car for the price of a base 991 gt3 and spank 991 RS butt all day long.
A car like the M3/4 has the potential to be an ideal combined road/track car if it can withstand the track use. Porsche doesn't offer anything that fits that purpose, since the Panamera is too big and heavy, and 911 doesn't have a real back seat.

I currently have the M5 in 6MT (with rev matching) and test drove a 435x in 6MT yesterday. If the 4er platform is any prelude to what the M4 will be like we are in for a great treat. The car is incredible and I hear.. get this... that for the 1st time ever you can even get full leather, Ceramic Breaks, in both the M3 and M4. The M3 today is basically the same size as the E39 M5... so its on my shopping list as the next DD to replace the M5 which has been a bit of a boat .. but comfy fast one at that.

As per MT - BMW has the engineering might and funds to be able to keep produce stick shifts where they see fit. The 1M Coupe was such a massive hit for them and those cars have retained their value like crazy! I think BMW is onto something ...

Retained their value?!? Good luck finding a decent example with low mileage for less than $65k.
