Default In real world Trim the 991 GT3 is as light as the 4.0RS!

Yes, knew this would get your attention but it appears true.

In the latest EVO article comparing the two they measure both cars on scales. The 4.0RS owners confesses his car is heavier than the published 4.0RS weight because he has air con, Sat Nav and front lift. The factory 1360kg published weight was omitting any options at all.

The 991 GT3 tested was with Sat nav but no front lift. It had the standard ROW folding bucket seats.

The 991 GT3 weighed 35lb lighter than the 4.0RS on the scales. Remember that this would be approximately the same if the front lift and fuel levels were taken into consideration as the 4.0RS owner pointed out.

So there are a bunch of us thinking that this car has got heavier but with air con specced as factory issue and with the popular Navigational module includes it would appear that riding on the road these are approximately the same weight!

Below is the data panel from the EVO review and the 4.0RS owners comments can be found on Pistonheads.

What was the true real world weight of a 997.2 GT3RS when it had air con and Sat Nav onboard? Was it heavier or lighter than the new 991 GT3?

Mine as a real 3020lbs
I don't see that happening to a 991 GT3 with light wheels, light battery, side muffler delete and steel brakes.

Hi Pete.

100% stock, Full tank gas and air con is 1369kg?

You are the lightest so far by a long shot - two UK cars both over 1400kg as my sample group...why are the RHD heavier?

I already calculated how to get down to 1395ish kg. Pole Positions (20kg), Gell Cel Optima battery (6kg), side muffler delete (9kg).

1373kg.

In addition to weight gain, comparison also shows new car has less horsepower, less torque, and 500rpm narrower powerband. Likely a contributing factor in the PDK decision.

100% stock except for the mentioned changes and added a CS roll bar!
No gas, 3020 was on track, empty tank. No option car, lightweight headlights, no radio.
This is with tools that come with car, all carpet, even the manual in the glove box.

Side muffler delete is about 22KG and a lot of heat removed, should be OEM option.

I have to weigh my 3.8 RS, it does not have radio, A/C, or front lift. My 4.0 has no radio but has A/C and front lift.

FWIW, the heavier 991TTS beat the 991GT3 by three-seconds at The Ring 7:24 to 7:27. This is according to Porsche reliable sources. It may be that Porsche needs to provide additional incentives for people to buy the 991TTS which is almost $70,000 more.

No doubt, on track, weight is important, but IMHO not nearly AS important as we think. I lightened my 993 factory GT2 Race car from 2,750 Lbs down to 2,550 Lbs. My lap times changed only 0.10 - 0.15 seconds,
far less than I thought they would. And consider the GT-R weighing 350 Lbs more than the TTS and 500 Lbs more than the 997 GT3 and GT3RS but being several seconds faster than both on most tracks.

Porsche has quoted a 7:25 ring time for the 991 GT3. Your reliable sources contradict that and suggest it's actually slower?

How is $51K almost $70K? Never mind all the extra content you get with a TTS that probably would add up to close to $50K if added to a GT3.

The TT is a deal, the TTS is a much better deal than a loaded GT3.

Yes. Apparently, Porsche being on the conservative side will use 7:27 as the stated Ring time for the GT3. I personally believe this is a marketing ploy to get Porsche buyers to pony up $200,000 for the TTS. They cannot have a $130,000 911 beating a $200,000 911. The profit margin on the 911TT is considerable.

Already a poster in this thread is stating the TT is a better deal. Nothing like focussed marketing.

...not to mention the upcoming mid-engined cars priced higher than the 911 range. It will be interesting to see how performance of the GTx models are compromised in the coming years, either in reality or on paper...

Nick Porsche have already given a ring time for the 991 GT3 of 7.25 via AP and its been requoted many times in press articles....
