This 991.1 GT3 is my first Porsche. All I can do at this point is keep enjoying it with the new #4 motor. I am hopeful that Porsche will take care of us GT owners.

I feel your pain... Are you in Orange County, CA? If so where are you taking your car for warranty work?

That's right. I meant 2014.

One of my race shop techs went to work at Porsche

Over a few beverages he told me all 991.1 gt3 engines (including RS and R) have this problem and steer clear..and he knows his stuff

They cut the oil filter on every one that comes in, each one is a little worse each time

We used to coat the rod bearings in race motors with the same stuff. It lengthens the part life but it will eventually fail. Just a band aid

Porsche warranties the gt3 because they were forced to

Enjoy the car while under warranty..then punt it

I wouldn't own any 991.1 gt3 variant out of warranty..even RS or R

Local race shop had a guy buy a bubble wrapped .1rs a few months back..it Thru a rod at 900 miles on track. Porsche is being a ***** about warranty engine since it was not broke in to spec

Is there any actual data on the 3RS or the R having a similar issue?

2023 feels like forever from now..until then, keep changing engines out and that helps to pressure Porsche to focus on an actual solution lol

That's incorrect. There is a "2-year warranty for genuine Porsche parts, exchange parts and accessories, which are used or sold outside of warranty work. The warranty period for Porsche parts which are used in connection with warranty work ends contemporaneously with the warranty period for the purchased item which has become defective." When the 10-year engine warranty is up, so is the replaced engine warranty even if it was replaced 1 day before.

I eventually lemoned my 14 because it was on its 3rd motor and that one would consume a quart of oil with each tank of gas when driving around town. If you're in California its a pretty safe bet, feel free to PM me if you want details.

I’m aware of a Denver owner on his fourth engine- I believe, 2014 car. Similar issues with finger follower and oiling issue. He does hpde the car a bit.

Wow.. not sure I’ve heard of one person having 2 additional failures. So you’re getting a new motor each time? They’re losing their shirt on you

Did not know that the parts warranty only applies to parts that are paid for out of pocket. Good to know and thanks for clarifying.

So if they put in a new engine in 6/2016 it was at least a "G" unit, maybe not one with the DLC coated cams.

I'm not trying to be a skeptic but 16 rs engine failures have been very very rare...
