You don't need to take the bumper off. You need a Torx Socket set to remove the muffler brackets from the motor. Takes about an hour. I've done around 6 of them - 991.1 GT3's, 991.1 GT3 RS's, and 991.2 GT3.
Here you go... You can slow it down in youtube.

No offense, but from a customers point of view, this is the complete opposite - more chances of damage on a $200k plus car.

Plus, charging more because customer supplied the part (that the shop probably doesn't even carry). The real reason they want to take the bumper off is so they can charge more for labor.

We do carry the center exhaust bypass for GT3's. We offer several different brands in fact.
The center muffler bypass is wedged in between the side mufflers. As many of the others have mentioned, it does make the job easier. The procedure has been discussed with the techs before. They choose to remove the bumper.

So I'm a bit confused. I want to do this as a weekend project with my son but want to make sure I know what I'm getting into
1. on the 991.1 GT3 you can install the Sharwerks without removing the bumper and no lift is needed? Ramps only?
2. Also, is the heat shield removed and left off? See this video: minute 21

Re: your second point, removing the heat shield helps with access. Pretty sure you should put it back on when you're done (I did).

Mc21, great write up thanks. I think this will be a project I attempt this winter. Looking forward to it. Question, on the rear deck lid GT3 decal, did you get that from Suncoast?

I had them made, it is exact size as the 997 GT3, looks more proportional to me at 6 inches.
DM me if you want some

My 2015 install was done by the dealer, and they wouldn’t do it minus taking off the bumper. I know several people that have done it by not taking the bumper off. The install was under warranty since they did they work per the shop manual, but now many dealers have ceased in doing the installs not sure why? Below is my install on my 2015 several years back.

Contact Jeff at AutoCouture, they're located in Fair Lawn. They've done all the work on my GT3 save for some small stuff. A CMB install should be an hour to a 1.5 hour install. The shop is very professional and you shouldn't leave disappointed at all. They're the type of shop that won't let you leave dissatisfied should you have any problems. They've taken care of me and my previous car multiple times.

991.1 - not bad to do without removing the bumper cover. There's room to reach all the hardware and there's room where you can move the mufflers on the sides away from the cats.
991.2 - doable, but it's a tight fit. It's really a tight squeeze to take the original muffler out without removing the heat shields. And loosening some of the hardware such as the 6mm hex band bolts that attach it to the car. You could damage the shields or more likely just bend them, which could result in rattles later. The rear bumper cover is a service-removable item under most jobs on these cars including air filters. We always remove the rear cover during installation. Throughout your car's life, this bumper cover will be removed a number of times, so I wouldn't be concerned if they are careful + know what they're doing. But it will save you 30-minutes to an hour, or so, if you skip removing/re-installing, and if you weren't careful while removing, you could damage the lights or the cover itself, so it's a coin toss which is safer if you aren't experienced with it.
PS - We have a large dealer network of Porsche-brand and independents that install these parts. I believe we talked over the phone but I'll message you more recommendations.
