Looks like this thread has found an audience beyond our cozy little 991 GT3/RS/R section.

Work as an Exec at a cloud SW Company based in San Mateo. Work hard and stress is present but enjoy it. Work to support toys, travelling and golf. Plus kids and a wife And California aint cheap. Been living in the States for 30 years.

Agree, good conversations away from the "what's that rattle" threads in the 991 section

Wow, so many doctors and small business owners. Where are all the finance guys at?
I'm in investment banking. Parents paid for my education (college and law school), but I've otherwise more or less earned everything on my own since then.

I do, which is much of the reason I post less regularly: 2311 posts over 15 years = 1 post every 3 days, depending... When I joined RL in 2003 I was less than three years out from a 4 year hitch with the Airforce- I was already on my 3rd Porsche at the time. From there I worked for two engineering consulting companies (one of which I founded), three startup companies (one of which I founded), did a 1.5 year stint in Germany and I got and then gave up one of the best jobs in the world- writing about Porsches.
Over the last 10 years I've been technical co-founder and CTO of a Solar for Industrial Heat company that helps get oil out of the ground, which likely means we'll have some reason to disagree regardless of your political leanings. We have a head office in California where's I'm based, manufacturing in China and another office in the middle east. We did just over 100m in revenue last year and are working some of the biggest solar projects of any kind in both the US and the middle east. If you see a flurry of posts at strange hours I'm likely in a portable trailer in an oilfield in the desert of Oman, homesick and dreaming about cars. Or I'm just jet-lagged and/ or highly stressed. If I stop posting that means things are busy, which is the rule rather than the exception. Now on my 10th Porsche I'm in the situation where I've got more toys than time, and I dream of the time I have both the time and the money to play properly again. One of these days... Until then RL makes a good escape, particularly when technical discussions come up and bickering is avoided.

Same - paid off all college loans myself and got a full scholarship to grad school. Was in McKinsey and quickly decided Finance was not the route for me having worked with some Investment Bankers during M&A due diligence.
