Geologist when young, then management, then portfolio manager now retired. The Porsches started as a dream in 4th grade, went real the beginning of the management stage - 61 Porsches so far [never more than 3 at once].

Have worked as an M&A banker for the last 7 years; bought my initial 911 (993) with my first bonus burning a hole in my pocket.

Nah, f**k this ^^^, find something you are interested in, work your *** off at it for years and learn to love it, then continue to work your *** off at it until you can no longer work. That, and the #42 (obviously), are the actual meanings of life, the universe, and everything.

certainly this doesn’t apply to anyone here but most ppl are simply inefficient.

im decently efficient
when i eat I eat enough to last days.
I do conf call in the gym
I run around in sweat pants and if I have to impress a particular client ill
walk and change into suit at
the same time. hard to believe but yes.

shabe once a week
uo at 5 sleep at 1
mkst mtg are wage is time I snore
when they need my approvals someone will kindly
wakw me up

but im a little strange
my wife is more sane and twice as efficient. most ppl at kids school think she doesn’t work. lol shoes kn 60 hours a week. and does half the kids shuttling and cook and laundry and house cleaning and dishes.

dont fix typos. my time is way more & than my assistants. she can fix it.

if u are short on time u are doing something inefficiently.

teaxh kids now. kids today nice SLOW. give them a task
and WATCH them move. i’m not sure how they will survive in this ever faster tech age.

anywsys contrarsry to pop believe I work very long hours. .

Some impressive careers listed here, not unexpected.

Was a mechanical engineer for a few years before building out an algorithmic futures trading business over the last ~15yrs. Hold seats @ CME, trade mostly bond/equity index futures. Stumbled into it completely blind & unexpected. Initial desire was just to not answer to anyone. Lone-wolf, introverted type guy. Typically work 6am-2pm MST from home office... during mid-session lulls, find myself stalking RL and watching car related material.

...how do people manage to spend so much time around here while being able to afford these cars?
Fair bit of TSLA at $33. Fair bit of AAPL at $0.80 (adjusted). Wish my VLKAY was doing better.

...but I still work between snarky posts and impossibly fortunate stock picks. Many years in tech startups, now primarily real property.

No inheritance , made my own hard-earned money and business from scratch . Business owner 28 years now with shares in a construction , trading company and a pay-to-play sports facility , still work around 48 hours per week and going in the next 3 years into semi-retirement and enjoy my cars more

So, yes, I am in rare company to have a "real job" where I get performance reviews, have to wear shoes to work, take sick and vacation time, and don't set my compensation.

Reading this, about to head in and get into my current fund raise model, don't get much time to post at the moment CCO/CFO of a small growing tech business. Did my time with PwC, EY, GT......

I would love to retire, but haven't made enough money yet !!!

The wife and I are in the corporate world climbing the corporate ladder. She's a director of supply chain at a tier 1 automotive supplier, and my title is solutions architect for a consortium of major credit unions. Basically I design and engineer the IT infrastructure for our datacenters. I specialize in virtulization platforms as well. Can't say I am completely self made but all my toys are self purchased and I own my home outright so I am a bit proud of that at 30. Still from time to time I decide to do stupid things..........like spending 190k on a GT3 vs 130k to start my MBA.

Musical Instrument Sale Rep for the last 22 years, old school sales gig...I travel a lot and work from home so there is time to browse RL a couple times a day and then sitting in hotels at night is boring so RL keeps me company. Got my 1st Porsche...well it was my wife as I didn't really fit in it...at 36...a Boxster S. Didn't get my 1st 911/977 Porsche until I was 41. Zero family money or help from family with education, jobs and career...dad and I never got along.
