It’s the Ring. **** happens! This was definitely not driver error. Just an incident. A really bad incident.

I missed the fluid on track in video.

Glad no one was hurt.

Other comments withdrawn.

I'm not so sure about that.....the driver who was not properly maintaining his vehicle and allowed fluid to spill all over the track is at fault. That is the root cause. Everyone else is just a victim. I don't see how they could have avoided it.

A couple other things to add: Did you see that guy with the red jacket on the track side of the barrier? He is just waiting to get his legs amputated. Get on the other side of the barrier. There were several other videos from different perspectives on this crash posted in another thread on RL (I can't find them right now) that showed guys stopping in the middle of the track when you could have driven through the crash slowly and pulled over. Do that. They got rear ended.

Well, one could also point a finger at Porsche if it was indeed a 997 GT3 that first dropped coolant as mentioned. These cars have a known defect where the coolant fittings separate from the engine case (only attached with epoxy) and some feel (including myself) that Porsche should have issued a recall for all the affected cars, rather than relying upon the owners getting the fittings welded or pinned at their own expense and initiative.

I don't know whether this was the cause here, but it is not an uncommon issue and several track organizers require proof of welding or pinning in order for a GT3 of this era to participate.

I am kind of surprised the 'ring doesn't have a warning/traffic light system at 1km intervals (or less) all the way around. With cameras at each. (Or more.). Maybe I just find myself watching crash compilations... but the road always seems very slick - even before coolant oil. Maybe it wouldn't stop the first couple of cars... but I've seen plenty of video's of drivers running up the side of the road waving their arms.

Surprised they allow glycol based coolants there. Glycol = ice.

I have heard the owner of the 997 who's brake fluid leaked on the track did not have proper insurance and is responsible for these damages because TF is a public road, can anybody confirm this?

I hope he has coverage because it appears its going to be a pretty big tab.

Was it brake fluid or coolant?

Loss of brake fluid would be awful for the car losing the fluid, but wouldn’t usually make a big lake on the track. Coolant sounds more likely...
