Installing a Cantrell bar into the 991.1 RS
Started installing the Lava Orange Cantrell roll bar into my 991.1 RS. Planning to hit Sebring next week. Fourth rollbar I've installed in a 991 GT. Should be done with install tonight.
Have to open up the passenger seat passthrough as well.
Installation is pretty easy but requires a lot of patience (and faith) when removing some of the interior panels.

Not at all. Everything was perfect. I installed the same bar in my 991.1 GT3 & 991.2 GT3 - no issues at all. Their documentation is very good.
I did tape up the side panels with a few layers of blue tape when performing the final installation of the bar, just to protect things just in case..
I also found this flex socket to be critical to tighten up the rear 17 mm bolts:
The fun part is tonight when you have to trim the rear carpet piece and squeeze it in there. Shouldn't be too bad - patience and attention to detail.
And for those worried about trimming the side panels:
1) They can always be replaced.
2) Played no impact on trade in value on my '15 GT3 for the '18 GT3
3) Hardly visible if bar is removed.
This 991.1 RS was originally spec'd and purchased by a very very special VIP. A VIP that drove it around Road Atlanta for a press day. I had to wait 6 months and got it with 70 miles on the clock.
I struggled on whether I wanted to track it or not. Ultimately, this car was built for the track and just driving around town and taking it to C&C / Car Shows is not where it wants to be.

Really nice job, you are now an expert. I remember when you and I were installing our GT3's at the same time. Cantrell makes a great bar that fits perfectly and is safe. I hope to be doing this again on a .2 RS, fingers crossed.

Thank you!
Thanks. I've installed a BBI also, which requires no removal or cutting of the side panels. Saves a couple hours of work. I do like the fact that the Cantrell is 1.75" instead of the 1.65". Just feels and looks so much more rigid / substantial. Cantrell , GMG, BBI... I know these are no substitute for a welded in roll cage (had that in the GTB1 Cayman). I have a GMG in my 997 RS and it just doesn't look anywhere close to as beefy.

Installation complete. Total elapsed time yesterday and today is 5 hours. That includes putting a hole in the passenger seat and doing the upholstery work. I have new Schrottlh 2x2 black belts coming in at the end of the month. Threw these "Clashing Red" belts in for now.
Bar is solid.
happy to answer any specific questions.
