Gear shifter flexing under torque in 4th gear, on 991.2 GT3
Hi Guys. I have been enjoying adding some miles on my 991.2 GT3 with manual transmission. Car has been amazing, but I did notice that when I shift into 4th gear and apply any amount of throttle the gear shifter moves forward about 3/16” but does not pop out of gear. I don’t have to step hard on the gas to initiate this movement. I tried 1,2,3,5 6 and the shifter is rock solid with no flexing or movement regardless how hard I accelerate, but 4th is a different story and any slightly acceleration will result in movement. Aside from this the car drives normal and great.
Not sure if this is only in my car, and would like to hear if other experienced the same thing or is this isolated to my car. Usually if the shifter moves, that is usually an indication of bad motor mount but it should happen in all gears and not just 1. I reported the issue to Sunset and I am taking it tomorrow to service so they can inspect the car. Thought I should share this and see if anyone else experienced the same thing. Mark

I have only felt some vibration in the Shifter some times when under acceleration. It may move/bounce a little but not necessarily isolated to one specific gear

My Miata MX-5 does that in every gear. When my GT3 MT comes in at the end of March I can compare the differences and report back.

Mine only does it in 4th and it is very notciable. I own 16 Spyder, and GT4 and 991.2 Targa 4S and all manual and none of them does this. Let’s see what Porsche service says. Mark

Really.... that is surprising. None of my other manual cars like GT4, 981 Spyder and 991.2 Targa 4S does this and also this one only does it in 4th. This can’t be normal. Hopefully Porsche service will have an explanation.

i have owned many manual cars over the years and yeah some of them did that under hard acceleration but i have not experienced this in any late model Porsches including the 3 other manual Porsches I currently own, hence the question and surprise. Will report back after Porsche service takes a look. Thanks bud and congratulations in advance on your GT3. You are going to love the beast. Mark

Please keep us posted on what you find at the service department.

i have experienced a maybe somewhat similar vibration/ shifter push while in fourth gear while on the throttle. I wasn’t anywhere close to wide open, rather maybe 50% at most and everything was plenty warmed up. I’ve only had it up to 4K rpm but noticed it only in fourth. Unfortunately, my car has been in the garage since the day after delivery because of cold and crappy weather here so I didn’t get to really check it out or investigate too much. Would love to hear what you find out. I figured it might just be a break in sort of thing, but regardless, haven’t been able to do anything about it here anyway until it warms up some. Like you said, otherwise, car seems great with my limited +/- 100 miles.

On my 997.2 GT3 shifting into 3rd would be a problem when coming out of a corner under heavy acceleration. Similar to my 993 (solid motor mounts on that helped a lot). Always just figured it's the way it is with the engine/transmission layout.

I think this is pretty normal to have some movement of the drivetrain with on/off throttle application, resulting in shifter position movement...

My Hellcat does that sometimes under hard throttle. But, that car has actual torque. My previous Porsches never did what you're describing.
