Can Somebody School Me on Particulate Filters?
Hey guys,
I keep reading about emissions changes causing impacts on GT3 or GT3RS production and the addition of particulate filters seems to be important.
I tried to do my own research but can't seem to come up with the relevant information.
It's my impression that particulate filters have been in use for diesel engines but are only now becoming a requirement for gas engines. The thing is... the things I'm reading seem to suggest that they're required in Europe on all cars made after September of 2017. I can't seem to find information suggesting that got pushed forward yet all the discussions here seem to indicate that cars made throughout 2018 are not affected or that sometime during the year they'll start having them.
My impression is that these things aren't just another piece added to the exhaust like a catalytic converter but are a little more active and heat themselves up for cleaning cycles among other things. There seems to be a tangible added cost to having them.
Can someone chime in with some actual facts? Will all gas engines need them? When do the new rules actually take effect? Why is this a big deal? What effect will they have on power or sound or anything else?

New cars released after Sept. 2017 and all cars after Sept. 2018 are the new emissions regs.
I know quite a bit about diesel particulate filters, but not much about gas ones. I read all the white papers I could on the gas ones (insomnia) and I can’t figure all that much out other than I don’t want them. :-)

That seems to be the key detail on timing.
So so as long as a model came out before September last year, it’s allowed to be made as-is until this September?
I’m assuming this is about build date right?
And the GT3RS will have to have this filter on all of them because it’s not introduced yet?
Anyone know whether these rob power? Do North American laws require them?
Is it possible that ours could have higher power ratings and come without them?

Isn’t this just a European requirement. I didn’t think a gas engine needs a filter since the cat burns everything. But I guess there is carbon shoot that could be captured.

But the GT3RS will need them right off the bat regardless right? Since it’s being introduced after last September?
So will European ones have particulate filters while ROW cars don’t? Will they have different power ratings?
