Anybody buy or sell a 911R recently?

Can you describe the difference to a 991 RS, why the R is so much "better" ?

I love mine, it is unique, unassuming and all around special, to drive. If I could, I would pick up a second to daily drive over anything else.....

Yes, for me I am not looking for a track specialist, so the RS is boring. What do I mean by boring? Other than the audible pneumatic noises when it downshifts, it has very little character for me. Its overly refined, its fast, but for a driver on the street it lacks the fundamental driver to car sensations I enjoy. Steering is direct, it stops incredibly well, and it looks cool.... but that isn't what I am looking for.
Why is the R special. It has all of that and more. Manual, lots of rattles and noises, minimal sound deadening, I took it on a road trip and you hear the noises. I enjoy that. Yes an RS is stripped too, but you don't hear all the little noises as much, it doesn't have that slam it down gears, utilizing the clutch, matching the revs, gearbox like butter.... theres a lot to it.
What the R reminds me of the most, is the initial RS's we got here, the 997.1. That car is special, tap on the roof and you hear it all. The R is that car just made for the driver to enjoy on the road. What all auto manufacturers have to watch out for in my eyes is overly refining cars. Yes, there are a lot of amazing cars, but they become boring when too refined. Be raw, be edgy, let the drivers do the work. Thats the R. If you guys remember the 996 GT3, now that was special. Nothing to it, loud as hell inside, raw, fast for its time, just damn cool!
Now, the 991.2. Great car, yes manual, but makes no noise!!!! No gearbox rattle, no bearing noise, no exhaust noise (until you do a GRP center bypass of course), but in all honesty it needs it! Stock it just doesn't tick the boxes, and I think a lot of my customers who have come to us so far agree with that statement. The newer the GT3's are getting, again the more refined and the more they lack character. Just my thoughts.....

Every time I thought about replacing it with something else, all it took was one drive to make me reconsider: "You wanted to sell THIS, you idiot?"
But "nothing to it"? Come on...

GR is right. I've only considered selling my R so that I can get back into a CGT.
The R really is great to drive and much more effort required than the 2016 RS. How that will compare to a 2019 RS? No idea.

Frankly no. Not in my case. I was fortunate to get one as i took a massive risk on a 918. A car at the time i could literally barely afford, and thankfully it worked out. Yes I’ve been fortunate since then, but i am not Uber rich, nor would i ever try and act that way.
I sinply stated why to me it is special. As car guys, i thought we could talk like that without critical comments. My apologies.

All agreed, I was able to drive mine this weekend, special car.
I do hope that the tendency on RL to flame anything positively said about the R is now history - it has kept some from a fuller discussion of that car.
Porsche may have made a bad decision in alienating a large part of their core customer base in the way they sold the R, but I think they realized their mistake and have made up for it by introducing some very good cars, and the manual .2 is a good, and very similar, example. Very simiar, but different character.

The R seems like a great car, it's a bit of a mixed bag for me personally and prefer the GT3 package anyway, but drive and enjoy in good health. Since only 991 of them ever made, it's cool to read and get driving impressions, hear comparisons against the inevitable competitor: the .2 GT3

You have articulated very well comparing the 911R to other Porsche GT cars. I can only compare my 911R to my 991.1 GT3RS and 991.2GT3 both of which are PDK. As many 911R owners would attest to which I concur, the 911R is a fun car due to driver engagement. Pretty much it hones up the driver's skill in using it on the road. It is an "Old School" car (i.e., clutch noise/clatter (SMFW), stick shift, perfect and smooth gear box, etc.,) in modern times. Similar to you, I'd rather pass on my 911R to my son than sell it.

Any interest in a trade for another Porsche? When the Touring sells out, I think there will be more interest. It’s likely that potential buyers for a 911R are harboring hopes for a Touring and have sidelined them to step up and pay the R premium.
