There is no difference in performance. Comp package ("ZCP" option) comes with slightly lower (10mm) suspension and really cool looking wheels.
Here!is my 2nd E90M3 with those cool wheels. They look cool but are not forged like the regular 19” wheels. If a tree can fit on top. I am sure a lonbgboard could ;-)

I recently picked up a 991.2 GT3, which is fantastic, now I want to " downgrade" my current DD ( which is a macan GTS) ... looking for something less expensive that I can beat on , park wherever , use for surf trips etc. Im in LA so space is a commodity. under 40k . thoughts? My first consideration will be a GTI...
Another so cal surfer here. I’d say BMW 3 series wagon or BMW X5. With the X5, the tailgate has a lower shelf that comes in handy when changing out of your wetsuit. Both have 40/20/40 back seat configurations, so you can slot your board(s) down the center and still seat 4.
How about some info on the car. I always thought it was a great looking car but never drove one.
It's a 2012. I had the dealer replace all the things that are known issues before I pulled the trigger (all new batteries, rear traction motor). Its been 100% trouble free the near 3 years I've owned it and I almost have 50k miles. I mainly bought it because I can fit my kids in the back and it's something unique.
2015 M6. It's got about 30K miles and I'm getting itchy for something new. I'm #3 on my dealer's list for the new M8, but if the front end is anything like the 850, I'm done.
