The murdered out triple black seems to be a popular spec for people ordering black. Not my cup of tea... If I had to order black, I would spec Silver wheels, PCCB's with yellow stitching/belts.

I don't like the 981/991 generation in black. Doesn't work for me for some reason. The 997 didn't have this problem.

^ Besides black obscuring the car's shape why do you feel this way?

a lot of the lines and details get lost on the black.

I don't know. Personal preference.

I disagree. I think dark colors accentuate the body, with the lighting exposing the lines. To me, light colors make the 981 shape very 2D, while dark colors give it depth. All personal preference I guess. I felt even more so about the 987, which I thought absolutely needed a darker color to make the car look good.

Wouldn't stealth craft and other "invisible" military projects be painted a light color then? Black Ops? But what do I know, I'm just a painter.

Actually, I was thinking just about that as I wrote earlier!

Did Porsche not take the Spyder as far as they could from a minimalist weight loss philosophy and its to close to a GTS?
My guess is marketing. Lots of hype for the GT4, and barely a mention of the Spyder. I have heard from a couple of Porsche loyalists that have added a Spyder to their collection. The feedback is unreal. It's their favorite car to drive over their 991s, 918s, GT4, etc., and that's impressive. Add the GT4 side gills, and wheels on this thing, and we have a knockout.

I really like black on the Spyder and GT4. Hard to keep clean - we all know that...

Seems as though black creates a strong opinion -- which seems like a good thing.

now, you've just made it harder to decide between the GT4 and the Spyder

They withheld some of the GT4 tech and didn't give it to the Boxster Spyder. It is normal that the Cayman gets a couple more HP which is generally accepted, but I think Porsche overdid it here. Buyers might feel like they get a short deal.

The trunk accessibility is also more of a Schildbuergerstreich.

I would be more likely to bite if it had the regular Boxster body with the 3.8 engine.

Also, I think convertibles suffer more sales loss when not offered in automatic since they are more likely to be shared family toys.

As a nitpick, those wheels on that car would look better with silver rim stripe.
