2005 Boxster spark plugs never been changed.
I have a 2005 Boxster I bought new, man I can't believe it's 10 years old already.
Anyway I have about 58k miles on it and I can't recall if the spark plugs have ever been changed.
Engine runs great, just at 10 years old I thought it might be a good idea.
I called a few dealers and almost crapped my pants.
The quotes ranged from a stomach churning $875 to $395.
I like doing my own maintenance as I learn so much about the car.
so far I've replaced the brakes (pads, rotors,sensors)and the brake fluid, replaced the drive belt, transmission fluid, engine oil, air and cabin filters.
Have any of you tackled changing your plugs, if so how was it?
The thought of even $400 is sickening, and $875 is just ridiculous.

The plugs are pricey, I believe $29 each so at minimum you're going to be spending $180. Orthojoe posted a DIY for the 987.2, not sure how similar they are but might be worth doing a search.

10 years. Hope you don't have any seized plugs. You'll feel a difference with new plugs after 10 years.
You seem pretty competent. I bet you can DIY.

to access plugs you need good access from below the car.
if you have the access - it's pretty straight forward.
beware of cheap plugs at ebay - too much fake stuff there...
so i would buy from the dealer. Jim Ellis is a cheapest i've found online.

Changing plugs on a 987 is very doable for a DIYer, but it can take a couple of hours per side and it requires some tools and creative contortions. I've done it with just jackstands, but having a lift would be easier.
Search the internet and other forums for tutorials and see for yourself what all is involved.
I've purchased Bosch plugs twice now for my 987s. They are the same plug (by all appearances) that comes in the Porsche box. About $10/ea online.
Don't delay doing this plug change too long. You risk the plugs seizing in the head.
As mentioned above, I believe you will notice an immediate difference after 10 years and nearly 60K miles.
I noticed a difference at only 8 years and 23K miles.

Thanks for your input guys.
I called a dealer service department about using something like PB Blaster penetrating spray to help with the removal, and he said that they've never come across a situation where the spark plug broke, because being in southern California the engine is not subjected to harsh, wet, salty conditions.
I hope I'm that lucky.
