I have a trickle charger from Porsche. What is a "DVOM"?

You would think a jump would at least get the dash lights on!

you could check the battery cable ends for not being tight. DVOM.......volt meter ,used to check for voltage at battery terminals then check for voltage at cable clamps. where are you connecting the jumper cables ?

Volt meter....got it. I don't have one home.

Jumper cables are going directly battery post to battery post.

test equiptment will make this issue sssssoooo much easier. is the car warranted ? if not i guess you could pull the batt out and have it tested at auto zone etc although it sounds like a bad connection

There was nothing loose. I pulled the battery and will take it to the Porsche dealership. I have had the car for 2 years since new...that better be under warranty!

How many miles on the car? I think you will find that there is a minimum mileage requirement for batteries to be covered under warranty (6k/year or something like that; maybe different for LiON batteries).

Regardless, I doubt you will be able to walk into a dealer with a dead battery and have them hand you a new one without charge (no pun intended); if the car has been driven normally and the battery killed prematurely, they will likely want to check the car's charging system, etc.

I found nothing on a minim mileage in any of the warranty paperwork...that would be interesting....for $3200 replacement cost, I would go rip-**** crazy. I have spent over $500k in new Porsches...I hope that would give me some clout.

I dropped the battery off and if it does not charge they will give me a new one and I will drive the car into the dealership to have them check out the system. Never a dull moment.

Alan brings up great points. 6,000 miles/year for warranty replacement on batteries have been reported multiple times online. I've never seen the language either, but more than 1 person was quoted that number by separate dealers when their batteries died. FWIW, my battery wasn't covered when it died. It was the crappy Moll though, not lithium ion.

This, it will. If you escalate it up to PCNA, they sometimes ask on the phone how many Porsches you've owned. Apparently they want to keep loyal customers happy. Someone who buys a Boxster or a Cayman (i.e. cheap car WRT Porsche) for the first time then bitches and complains... may be SOL.

For what it's worth, this is from very recent personal experience - like last week - not just regurgitated internet babble. Dealer laughed at warranty coverage when I told him the car had less than 5k miles in over 3 years (standard battery, not LiON). Bought a new Moll for $190.

I had a similar issue this spring with my regular battery. Long story short, even though I followed the winter storage guidelines in the manual, since the car hadn't been driven the minimum 9,600km/5965miles, there was no warranty coverage for the battery.

My car had 9,200km on it, so you'd think they'd help me out as it was close enough. But I guess since I only bought a lowly Cayman, close enough wasn't good enough.

I checked the vehicle's warranty, and sure enough it states that you must drive 9,600km over a rolling 12 months or the battery will not be covered.

Lesson learned: drive more!

Update....the battery id F#%ked. When they go low, the battery beeps. This happened on my RS. This battery never beeped. I was in the garage every day and I would have instantly recognized the noise. When examined, there is an small explosion mark in the inside and some liquid. The battery makes strange noises and charges up to 13.8V...a ridiculous number according to the mechanic. I get the impression its going to be covered. They need to scan the car and look for fault codes...I plan to drop in a standard battery to drive the car it...the dealer is close. Driving more does not make a difference...I drove the RS a ton more miles and that LI battery gave me issues. The LI battery has a separate manual and there are no stipulations on the use.
