We try to drive it weekly. I have 3 vehicles that are not daily drivers. No AC limits my summer daytime driving.

this is humor. i would think it a felony to buy a car in texas without a/c. did you buy this car to use on the track ? if you do not track it you are not concerned with the weight saving lion batt. why not just put a normal battery in it ? imho. and keep a tender on the batt

I don't track the Spyder. I am a purist. Light and simple. With PCCB, AC delete, and all the other crap deleted, its as light and simple as I can get.

My father just got a new Porsche...I sat in the seat and counted the *****...without counting the sub-menus I counted 105 controls. What BS....

I am storing a stripped down 2012 BMW M3 so when the robot cars take over I still have something nice to drive that I control. Incidentally...I bought a Golf R for my daily driver....it took 2 days and numerous emails to a tech in Germany to "reprogram" the car to tolerable differential settings, enable a complete ECU shut off, etc. I HATE the new cars!

Nothing wrong with wanting a simple lightweight no frills car. Remember everyone is free to do as they wish. Personally I appreciate the effort to go lightweight as it makes a car handle better and faster.

When you say stripped down M3, can you explain that? Is it a special model or just a no options car?

The Spyder handles incredibly...love it. If I did not have to make my wife happy, it would have been the Cayman R. The M3 is a no options car...no power seats, GPS, manual, no sunroof, etc.

Is your wife the one in the avatar?

Ha...nope. She was "Mrs. Texas" and the shot was for a calendar where they borrowed my car. She came with a couple of "bolt on" options.

Update....new battery. One of the cells "blew." I asked about the voided warranty of I drove the car less than 5k miles a year and the service manager had no idea what I was talking about. Never an issue. Thank God...I new LI battery is $3200.

Herr Scheible, that is great news! Can you please give me the name of your dealer / service advisor so I can take my car there for a free replacement battery? Ha ha ha!

I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if lower cost extremely lightweight batteries are available by the time my car needs replacement.

My dealer is Roger Beasley Porsche in Austin. They did the right thing....the LI battery was defective. When the LI battery in my RS became low, an alarm went off. No such thing in this case, which means that the failure was abrupt.
