The ignition locking mechanism or the plastic ignition lock that sits behind it needs to be replaced. This just happened to me. The whole part is $175 plus 2 hours labor with an Indy. The plastic part is a $20 item and 30 min DIY. Do a search on rentech.org for 996 and 997 cars. Common problem.

Hi,

Has anyone had this problem before??

I own a 2005 Porsche Boxster 987 (3.2) S.

But the car after left standing for a week has developed a problem.

My key is stuck in the ignition and will not come out!!!

I have found the tool in the fuse box which released the key, so thats good, and also the car starts every time, no problem.

But when ever i have to take the key out, its stuck and will not release.

How do i get the car to release the key?

Thanks for any help?

Michael

My response was because you stated the car was left standing for a week and THEN you couldn't remove the key. To me that implies that you WANTED to leave the key in the ignition for that week, not that you tried to remove it immediately after shutting the car off. I wasn't being an a$$hole when I posted my response, I was just giving my 2 cents, in case it might help. You won't have to worry about getting help from me in the future. If you don't get the help you're looking for, INSULT EVERYONE. That seems to work well. Good luck
