Hey everybody, Steve from Australia. After a few years out of porsche ownership I'm finally getting another. I have been looking at a 40th anniversary 996, which really impressed me, the only problem is the price. In Aus they are still commanding over $120K (aus), and that is a private sale, with no warranty, whereas i can get a 2006-07 cayman s, manual low k's extended warranty for around $100k even less. The car will be a daily driver, but i plan to track the car regularly. Is the 40th worth the 20k plus premium and what is others experience of these models back to back. Thanks.

i have had both. 40th is much torquier and more hp.
the driving experience is very very different. both are great.
if you can test drive both, you will find the decision easy to make for YOU.

I used to have the 40th and have driven it on the track along with the 987v1 CaymanS on a couple of ocassions. The 40th is a great car, LSD, upgraded oil baffle, US sport suspension and improved interior over regular 996. I upgraded it to ROW sport suspension and it transformed the car. I really enjoyed it then went to a 6gt3. As mentioned, you notice the HP difference at WOT.
That said, I loved driving the CaymanS on the track. For street, liked the 40th better. If I was allowed to demo both on a track, would have bought the CaymanS. I still want one....
For the money difference, I would probably go CaymanS, especially with warranty. Make sure your drive both.

Is that the one for sale in Sydney? I had a look at it (well called up as i am in Perth), nice car but as you say no warranty.
I would go the Cayman with warranty if you are going to track the car. But as everyone says go and drive both if you can, oh and let us know which one you choose!

Yes, there are actual 2 in Sydney. Doesn't matter now, cause i took a black and black 2007 Cayman S for a drive today, great car, pushes all my bottons, happy with the price and the trade in on my mazda, so I put down a deposit, looking forward to my first car trip up King Valley, then of course the Great Ocean Road.

Yes definetly a manual, had a tip boxster S once, never again.
2007 mod, 31000km, sports chrono, full leather, extended warranty, bose up grade, that's about all. Would have preferred a few more options, but in the end, doesn't change the driving experience. I'll probably put bilsteins PSS9 and lower it by 20 - 30 mm. Maybe an exhaust upgrade too. Can't wait to get it on the track.
