There's even some "new 2009 Cayman" discussion about the latest N-spec characteristics, tire pressures, etc.

I have picked up the February 2009 issue, but can't find anything in this issue. My owners' manual says nothing about this element of the tire specification (recollection only, the manual's in the glovebox and the car's in the shop as I type)... is it that important? Is it just a money grab? Does it apply retroactively? If so, has Porsche issued some kind of a notice to owners?
Thanks for the heads up!

When the Boxster was created, I think they were on N-0, so no, you don't have to change along the way. Porsche and Tire Rack both suggest you not mix and match - so let's say your fronts last 2x the rears and you still have life left in your N-0 fronts and only N-3 is available for the rear - at that point you'd probably want to change both front and rear to the new N-3. The compound is updated (improved) along the way, which is one of the ways that Porsche continually pushes up the bar in performance. The blurb is in the April 2009 issue - the one that just came out about a week or so ago.
