Unfortunately for the Cayman there are no power adders in your price range that would really do any good. Before you invest in springs you may want to check to see if he has the variable suspension as I do not think the springs will work with it.

+1 Buy him a day at the track so he can see what that car will really do. It is one of the most forgiving track cars there is.

+2 A weekend at the track!

Or AX and TT are great to learn the car as well and they cost a fraction of the price, leaving $$ for upgrades

You can get springs for Porsches with or without PASM. I had H&Rs on my PASM-equipped 911S.

We installed Techart (for PASM) springs on several Cayman's (and 997/TT) and were very pleased with the result. They are slightly longer than the H&R's we installed very shortly after the 2005 997 was released and I'm not sure if they've changed them since then, but at least two 997 owners came back and asked for the H&R's to be removed as they were too short (we agreed).

+3 for DE day. He will have a new found love for his car after he sees what it can do when pushed hard.

Bad bad idea on the track day. Do you really want to get blamed if some other car scrapes his paint or if he himself drives into a tire wall? For real-life pictures of a Cayman after track damage, see http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...QQcmdZViewItem

The pictures are even more horrific than the description:

This late production, low mileage 2006 Porsche Cayman S ran out of tire at a Porsche Club Driver's Education event a few weeks back. The owner has licked his wounds and moved onto another car, leaving this a perfect repairable car for someone looking for a sweet track setup or a repairable street car. The car has clean Carfax, clear title and only 8,000 miles on it. It has an upgraded suspension, welded roll bar, Farnbacher Loles tuned ECU and more! The car will come with the stock seats as the racing seats and harnesses will be moved to the next car. The orignal seats were taken out only a few months ago and are in near perfect condition. We have not sent the car to be professionally estimated, but all the doors close properly, the front trunk and rear deck lid do not close squarely. The car rolls fine to be pushed onto a trailer and the engine runs fine. The damage is minor considering the value of the car once fixed. Do not delay as these don't come around often at this price. Click, win and we're ready to ship it to you. We welcome your inspection if you would like to come in and see the car prior to bidding. We work with exporters, salvage yards, DE addicts, and anyone else with the willingness to take on a project like this.

Guess this means we should never take any of our cars to the track because its to risky. I feel you have a better chance of getting in a wreck on the streets than on the track. It is as controlled as you want it to be. Sure things can go wrong but where is the fun in living in fear?
