Cayman turbo???
I was watching the Industry Pool lads on Tuesday and noticed a black Cayman which had a decidedly turbo-like sound to it.
Any rumours?

TPC Racing is developing one. It is all but finished. I think they have only a waiting list now, as the first build has been completely sold out. The first ones are being installed at there place right now, and then the other Turbo kits will be sent out to their approved tuner shops as soon as all are perfected.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a factory job.
The car was in Industry Pool and tuners do not have access to the Industry Pool hours. They have to do their work during Touristenfahrt.

Porsche will never put turbos or LSD or 3.8 X51 in a Cayman S. I thought everyone knew this. This story is as old as the Cayman S, itself... Get a clue. This isn't common info in Germany? LOL

Maybe they have just fitted a very funny sounding exhaust to it.

Never say never. The 944 Turbo S (951) of the late '80s was cheaper and quicker than my puny '88 911, even around a race course (they came with sport suspension standard). They came stock with more hp than the 911, and could easily be boosted 30-50 hp more. Maybe Porsche was trying to see if the cheaper and more powerful 951 could finally knock the 911 off its pedestal. People kept buying 911s anyway, so they killed off the 951 instead. Some of the last 951s sat on dealers' lots for over a year, eventually selling at below dealer cost.

Three Wheelin'
The Cayman in the photos is the facelift version w/ the new front clip and LED tail lights. It is possible that a 3.4L engine in this test mule is non standard, most likely w/ DFI and 320-330HP (assuming a 10-15% gain), although possibly something "special". Porsche may one day offer an "uber" Cayman, but only when the 911 is already on its transition from 997 to the next generation, and the 987s are on the way out as well (2012). I personally don't see the "purely Porsche" Cayman/Boxster platform surviving beyond the current 987, as the next generation will almost certainly have a very healthy dose of VW/Audi.

It could be Ruf or 9ff testing something they've developed for the platform. They are considered auto manufacturers over there, even get their own serial #'s if I'm not mistaken.

Ruf gets their own VINs and I wouldnt be surprised if they did it. I dont see Porsche doing it
not with 22 different versions of 911s to over come.

With its mid-engined layout, rigid chassis and featherweight build the Cayman is the ideal race car. But last year some of the fantastic privateer Caymans on the grid were suddenly replaced with money-can't-buy factory-backed RSR 911s. For me this confirmed that Porsche don't want the 911 toppled by its younger sibling and were dealing with the teams who pushed the Cayman.
...that's just sad...
