Boxster Hardtop issues !!!
I'm expecting delivery of my new S this weekend but I asked about hardtop fittings and I was shocked !!
Appearently the fittings are only 50 Euros or so but the cabrio top cover has to be removed and they want 300 to 400 Euros for doing this.
Has anyone self fitted the hardtop kit yet? or have you had to deal with this on top of an already bloody expensive hardtop?

I looked over the TSB at Renntech and it does indeed say to remove the top, if you're paid up there go check it out
the spinlocks look identical to the 986, perhaps you could get them in without removing the top the way you can get the 986's in without removing the trim pieces
the top probably comes off easily like on the 986, not removing the soft top from the frame but removing the whole frame

I'm not in renntech but I can ask in the Porsche Zentrum.
I'll get the new car at the weekend and look for myself, It is really mean of Porsche to leave out the spinlocks....we should complain.

Ok, I picked up the car today, had to resist the temptation to drive once around Germany for the fun of it but I managed.
I had a quick look at the spin lock fitting and it is pretty much the same as the 986.
The problem is getting access with the screw to hold it in. The top is directly in the way.
I've ordered the locks and I'll take photos and let you know if I succeed.
Now where can I find a hard top at a reasonable price.........?.

I ordered the hardtop after I picked up my car. There is an installation fee by the dealer, but I don't think it was over $500 USD. Once installed, you do not have to take off the soft top, the only tricky thing for me is to not drop a little plastic piece which is involved with the rear window defroster. My car is an 05 987, so I can't speak for the 986.

The use of te hardtop is the same for both models, The only issue if the fitting of the spinlocks for the 987.
It is easy for the 986. But not so easy for the 987.
Once these are fitted installing and removing the hardtop is simple. On the 986 you remove a cover and plug in the rear window heater and on the 997 you have to unplug the rear window heater of the cabrio top and plug the heater fo the hard top in the same connector.
