In the UK at least, there is a tax threshold at 225 gm/CO2 and cars that produce above that figure pay more road tax, and this difference is set to get ever more swingeing. The Cayman (and Boxster) 2.7 with 5 speed box is rated at 223 and so comes under the highest taxation bracket. The 2.7 with 6 speed is 227, and so has to pay more annual tax, as does every other car in the Porsche line up.

As "gas guzzler" taxes get ever more severe, this is another reason for choosing the 5 speed.

but who in the UK kinows their **** from their elbow when it comes to transport policy? They can't even get busses to leave the train station just after the train arrives instead of before!

sports cars are about having fun, a socially responsible sportds car is an oxymoron. Guaranteed to fall between two stools. If this sort of nonsense really is of concern, then why not organise 'horses for courses', I can assure you that the Smart is an excellent city car, small, easy to park and economical.

Thumbs up lower springs with PASM

We have the Eibach lowering springs on my wife's Cayman S. Works great. On the track (if you track the car ) you will want to be in the stiff/sport setting. The car feels "vague" and slightly unsettled in the standard/soft setting. Pagid yellow brake pads and Quaif LSD and you are set. It is a fantastic car and very easy to drive.

Thanks! Well, along with all the usual stuff, it's got:
  • sound package plus
  • remote cd changer (6 disc)
  • floor mats
  • colored crest wheel caps
  • heated seats
  • 18" cayman s wheels
  • preferred package
  • auto climate
  • self dim mirrors and rain sensor

I'm EXTREMELY happy with the deal I got! I'm picking up the car tomorrow.

Smile soldmystang

Except for stainless brake lines and as much negative camber front and rear as we could get the Quaif differential, and Pagid yellow pads were it. This is my wife's car, my track car is a '95 M3 with a roll cage, track suspension, etc.(not street legal). She does let me drive the Cayman once in a while.
You may want to check out: http://www.caymanclub.net/cayman-competition/

So far, I'm really loving the car. I'm extremely happy with my decision and wonder why I never owned a red car before this!

Seriously though, the car feels great. I haven't really pushed it yet, but I have zero complaints so far.

Paul,

Congratulations. Is that an ordered car, or you found one on the lot? HUGE discount I hope.

I bought a totally stripped base Cayman, 5-speed, 17" wheels, and am loving it. $50k out the door pricing sure adds to the enjoyment department.

Enjoy yours in great health.

Actually, it was on the lot. It was manufactured a year ago, so I knew I could lowball them and I got an AWESOME deal! Even lower out the door than YOU! Can you believe it? I'm very happy!
