I’ve heard nightmare stories on this topics and happy endings. You should probably check with your local dealer to see if they have done any. They may also be able to provide a laundry list of parts they need to complete the install. With my dealer it was a no go  they had only done one 911 and charged about 8 hours labor 

Several other forums have info on this too if you check:

Renntech
Caymanclub

Good luck lets us know how it turns out if you pull the trigger 

I wouldn't bother trying to retrofit the factory system. It will probably cost you $3K plus, and Porsche is not good about providing software support/updates. You'll spend hundreds of dollars each time you need map updates, and in a few years you might not be able to get them at all for the current PCM system.

I've got PCM 2 Nav on my Cayenne, but I opted not to order it for the 987S. I'll got with a portable system where you can download map updates from the web, and can move the system from vehicle to vehicle.

I don't recommend retofitting nav either. There are better options. I have nav in my lexus and opted not to get it in my 887 or the wife's 987.

For both cars I use the Garmin Nuvi gps. About the size of a deck of cards with as many features as the gps in my lexus. Plus it fits in the glove box, can be used with rental cars, and it is battery powered if I want to carry it when walking in a city.

Plus, unless you're always driving in areas you need it you'll probably find you don't use the nav sys that much anyway.

Just my $0.02 - FWIW

This subject has come up recently on other forums and the consensus seems to be that it's not worth the money. My local dealer quoted a day's work of labor, and the cheapest price from a dealer I've seen is Suncoast. Alternatively, I've seen some very clean installs of superior hardware for less money than the PCM install would be.

Here's an example of a clean install:

I've had it done for $300 installation (including dealer programming). The unit (PCM 2.1 plus Nav unit with all cable harness necessary) cost me approx. $2100 including shipping. I'm happy with it.

Owning a factory nav system in my Touareg and also a Garmin Nuvi, I would never dream of retrofitting a factory nav system. For $500 you can buy a Nuvi and it will outperform the factory system.

After only driving for a couple of weeks, I decided that the OEM nav sucks. The aftermarket is a much better option.

Can you shed some light or contact me privately? I have an 03 c4s and i just bought a pcm 2 on ebay. all the arrived was the head unit. I'm lost at what else I need. Is there a sep. nav module?

Please, I beg for anyone's help here. I'm so lost.

Thanks,

i bought all the parts from suncoast to put in the OEM nav and i am adding XM on top. costs way more than an add on but i like the PCM and it matches my cayennes so moving between cars is easy.

it is worth it imo - i do not want something sticking on my dash or window or wherever else it may go - pretty personal though imo.

I went aftermarket and bought a Pioneer AVIC unit and a double din bezel from Porsche (thanks Suncoast). Now for about $1000 total including install I have Sat radio (XM), bluetooth, ipod interface, awesome and superior navigation that is faster and more accurate, and ipod integration that works flawless plus can add HD radio and I can watch video on the screen. Otherwise my 2009 Boxster looks factory and perfect. Is much better than factory PCM 2.1 and 3.0 I know cause I had both..one in my 2005 Carrera and the newest one in my wife's 2009 Cayenne S. PCM 3.0 is better but for 1/3 the cost you can do just as good if not better! my 2 cents

Any pics? That sounds like a nice setup. I'd really like to see what it looks like installed.
