Default CPO Cayman S Pricing

I'm currently looking to purchase a new Cayman S (06) and there is a CPO vehicle at the dealership which matches closer to the specs I want than any of the other new ones. It has about 1100 miles on it with 1 owner with an original MSRP of $75k. Do you think it's reasonable to ask for a discount of $16k? Maybe more? And plus, I get the CPO warranty of 6years (5+ years left) and up to 100k miles.

For the new models, most of the ones I'm looking at are in the $66-$68k range, so this one has a few extras which I normally would not get.

I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks.

I think 16,000 off seems fair. Check the VIN #. The last four numbers will let you know when the car was built. They started with zero and are up to about 5,500 now. I personally would be weary of buying a car below 1,500. A lot of the low numbered cars were PCA cars and were also used as Demos for dealers at events and as demo cars at the dealership.

Thanks, I'll have to go check the VIN and production date. Were the first 1500 or so built by the end of 05? I personally would prefer a brand new one, but if I figured if I could get the CPO for 10k less than a brand new, it may be worth considering.

I agree with Shane that you should learn more about the car, perhaps by contacting the previous owner. I think the early test and launch cars had the last four VIN digits under 1000. I ordered my Cayman the day after the options guide/list came out. Build was completed November 17, 2005; VIN #1101. I assume there were at least dozens of ordered Caymans built before mine.

if you could get $16k off, I would buy it. Don't think you will get that big of a discount, hopefully I'm wrong. My local dealer, had a demo with a sticker of about $70k and was looking to sell it for $65k. Didn't make sense because most dealers were giving atleast $5k off new 06's

I think $16k off sticker for a CS with only 1100 miles is very optimistic also. They could offer it initially for about $6k off, and then move to about $8k. I think they would have to be very desperate to go more than $10k off sticker.

Thanks for all the input. I was getting my hopes up a little, but haven't negotiated with them yet. If there's not at least a 8-10k difference between the CPO and a new order, then I'd definitely get the new one. I'm guessing I'll get around 5-6k off a new 06 and probably around 2-3k off for a new 07. But after test driving one... I can't wait to get one.

16k off of their asking price is not the market for that car. Not even close considering that a CPO'd car with around 1100 miles on it is WARRANTIED TO 100K!!! I'm sure they own it for a lot more then you could imagine.

Jools,

Why is she selling. Any dis-satisfaction with the Cayman S?

Thanks.

Jools,

The car looks great! It has most of the options I want except I'm looking for a lighter color. Those 19" Carrera Classics are one of the must have for me too.

No disatisfaction with the car at all, we both love it to bits.
Only selling as we're not truely doing the car any justice by using it so little and we have a GT3 on the way very soon.
If you want any further info please let me know.
Agree about the wheels, they make the car, with an agressive stance, grrrrr!
Don't really agree about the color though, I think they look best in darker colors, excpet white...... go figure!

16k off is not realistic unless seller is desperate.
you should be able to get 7k off on a car that's msrp'd at 75+ (new car that is).

btw, do you ride a tracer? nice, a tad to bouncy for me. i am on mavericks and ellsworth. more of a XC guy.

good luck.
