Default Neighbour's cat leaves hair on my soft top every night

It's very frustrating. I don't know whose cat it is. I can't catch it because it runs away as soon as it sees me ( I bet it can feel what i want to do to it)
just bought my new boxster s last week. Triple black. Absolutely loving it so far. Everyone (including me) thinks it's a cayman s when the top is up.
I have covered parking, not a garage. Even if I put a cover on the car, it wouldnt protect against urine.
I just dont want that cat sitting anywhere near my car.
What do you guys suggest?

Congrats on the new Boxster. This topic came up in the "Off Topic" thread but you will have to join Rennlist to get in. There were several remedies but the one I recall was putting strips of tape (tacky side up) on the top. It seems the cat wasn't hurt but was inconvenienced enough not to come back.

We have a bunch of feral cats outside the building where I work. They often go on the hoods especially in the winter to keep warm, leaving harmless paw prints. However, there have been no reports of urine. I guess it's because they have plenty of natural habitat and are pretty choosy about that stuff.

I could probably take urine better than the claw scratches up and down the side of my car and all over my plastic window as the SOB slid all over my car. No pun intended, but I was beyond pissed.

I had a similar problem. My car is in a below ground level garage at my condo complex. The biggest problem wasn't the hair, it was when I discovered said cat was trying to use the top as a scratching post. In this case I got a cover and the problem was solved. In fact the cat apparently did not like the cover at all and is now ignoring my car. I have had this problem before, and urine has never been an issue.

Thanx everyone for the warm welcome and suggestions. I will try the tape first, and then get a cover if that doesn't work.
I don't even want to think about scratches on paint.

Look at the bright side, No mouse **** or pee on the roof, only under the hood.

You have nothing to fear but scratches. My wife put the cat in the garage one stormy night and the damn thing laid a nice scratch on the rear fender. Never did get it out completely before selling it.

I don't know whether this would work or not, but Lowes sells sprays to keep dogs and cats from peeing on plants. You could spray that on the floor around the parking area,...hope it does'nt stink too bad or leaves a stain, other wise it may work.

Foster and Smith sell some products designed to keep pets off furniture that would probably work. One is a low voltage deterrent that would require an outlet. H.S. Trask sells fox urine; a few cotton ***** dipped in it and left around the car makes kitty think a predator is around so they stay away; or the never-fail .22 rimfire, a folding chair, a flashlight and a large coffee during the evening hours will send kitty to it's just reward

Try setting a mouse trap on the roof. That should take care of the critter!

Actually, I have a "passive" and "active" solution:

1) Active - get a BB gun and wait for the fu$%er. Just make sure your aim is good.
2) Passive - put out a bowl of anti-freeze near your car. Unfortunately, this one may suffer "collateral" damage since you won't know what animal will be drinking it.

Default Cat deflector

Thanks everyone for all the comments.
I've actually been leaving my car on the street since then. I figured there's less risk of crash / steal when compared to a cat scratch.
I cleaned the existing hair using duct tape as suggested here.
I spoke to the apartment manager , and he said he would buy a cat deflector. The device is activated when a movement is detected, and an ultrasonic sound is emitted, one that only animals hear. So the cat goes away.

PS: Out of all the ideas suggested, the BB gun is the one I'd do with pleasure.

In the meantime I just can't risk parking my car in my spot.
