Maybe it's just me, but the name Cayenne is perfect for the truck. It sounds beefy and (at least in Turbo and Turbo S form) powerful, somewhat spicy perhaps.
Cayman (let's forget the "S" for now) sounds more feminine, sleek, summerish, and sporty. Everything a truck shouldn't me IMO.
I think they should have stuck to numbers. I even like the sound of "Porsche C7S" better. Cayman, Boxster, Carrera, Cayenne, its all catchy for "outsiders." Most people can't keep track of their last oil change, knowing a bunch of numbers would be chaos Im sure.
I sent a letter to Porsche complaining about the Cayman name being too similar to Cayenne. Several times now when I tell people I got a Cayman, they respond with "ah, you got a new SUV". Er, no...
I also wish they had stuck with numbers. If it ain't broke why fix it? Marketing is running too much stuff at Porsche these days. Hell, most of the drivers of new 911s, Boxsters, et al think 'Porsche' is a monosyllabic word that is pronounced 'Porsh' and look at you like you just landed if you try to give them the 'wave'.
I could even imagine Porsche not caring that people mispronounce the brand. I can see Ferdy rolling in his grave...oh well, I guess when you are the most profitable car company in the world you must be doin something right!
I thought Cayman was catchy but everyone who hears it for teh first time just has a blank look.
Me thinks that just calling it the "MR-1 Carrera" would have been cool and sufficient.
