Question Warranty work for tracked cars

When looking at the Cayman at local dealer I asked salesguy if the warranty covered cars that have been autocrossed or raced in sanctioned events. He told me yes, as long as I did not alter the car with non-Porsche performance parts such as computer chips, etc.

I see a few comments on these forums that seem to contradict this so what's the reality out there??

i think your sales guy of full of sh*t.
if you RACED, it will be obvoius by looking at the car. and no dealer will ever cover it no matter how tight you are with them.

if you did a few AX or driver's education, then the line is rather blurry and depends on how tight you are with your dealer.

Read the warranty either in the manual or on the Porsche web site. Track = no warranty according to the book. I believe dealers have some lattitude but the book is clear. Which sucks.

It all depends on the dealer. My Boxster S needed new wheel bearings twice in the 12K miles that I owned it. The previous owner was an avid autocrosser and I tracked the crap out of it; custom roll bars was a dead giveaway. They replaced both bearings under warranty, knowing fully what the car had been through. One of the 02 sensors croaked also, most likely due to track use; fixed under warranty.

They won't replace dead MAFs if you use an aftermarket filter or intake though.
