I thought the same thing until I went to my dealer this afternoon. Seems a few people have asked when the Cayman will be coming out as a convertible. Go figure.
You really shouldn't feel the need to justify your purchasing decisions nor to denigrate those of others. However, if it helps you sleep better back in "jackass central," your otherwise meaningless post will have served a purpose.
Oh, btw, I don't think the Cayman S is targeted at GT3 (or 997S) buyers, but perhaps you didn't get the memo.
learn to read..i didnt denigrate anyones purchase or justify mine, i was pointing out the differences in performance between the cars. take the pickle out of your ***

Happy to hear that was your intent. Using the word "suck" probably caused the confusion. If you had said it might be hard for someone used to a GT3 to adjust to the less powerful Cayman S, I would have to agree with you. I don't track my cars but faced the same issue when I decided to give up a 400 hp Corvette for the less powerful Cayman S. For my priorities (handling, fun and X-Factor) the Cayman S makes the better car. For others, I can see a Carrera, S, 4S, GT3 or Corvette being a better choice.
