Hey folks,
It is nothing more than simple logic that, as the construction of cars becomes more complicated, so will the repairs (and, therefore, the relative cost of repairs)...this speaks nothing of the build quality.

So, pcar964...if you ain't happy with the newer cars, get your butt off this board and go back to your 964 board! And, I look forward to blowing your doors off at the track with my 987S.

I don't care if they stopped making 356s, 911s, etc... I just want them to keep the same philosophy they've always had with regards to quality and engineering, so no matter what model they come out with, it's true to the name...

Admittedly that's a high standard to keep up!

Schnell, that red car in your avatar looks familiar, is that a 78 SC Euro targa?

I would also suggest modifications to the suspension set-up, as I have heard that the S2000, while quick at the track, eats up tires very quickly.

Hope that helps.

pcar964,
I don't see ANY front inside tire lift in your pictures...so don't even start to tell us that you drive the car to even near it's limits!!!!!

Schnell, the first picture was taken as I entered the track from the pits in the middle of turn 1 at Sebring, you can tell becaue the angle in relation to the wall is more extreme than if you were on a "hot lap"

The second picture I think is turn 11, but I'm not sure..

in any case, according to your thinking you're not on the limit unless one of your wheels is up, that is silly. Your wheel won't come up on every turn even if you're at the limit, it depends on the corner... for instance, turn 16 or the hairpin will definitely get a wheel up at sebring.

in any case, if you're trying to say i'm slow, well I guess you can make your own judgement. Last time there I turned between 2:35-2:38 laps (depending on traffic) in my 95 993 which is bone stock, street tires, except for ROW springs. I didn't have any other 993s to compare to that day, but I was faster than many guys in advanced solo group with faster and better prepared cars.

OK, I'm convinced, Pcar. You are a troll, jealous of a 996, spoiling for a fight, firing off childish unsubstantiated nonsense. Is that even you on the picture? Come over to Mid-Ohio, announce your sentiments to the crowd in one of the DE's. I and other 996 owners will bury you and your 993 at the track. This is my last post in response to this troll.

Right on!! It is very apparent Greg (PCar) is nothing more than a spiteful troll starting flame threads wherever possible. "PCar" it seems that you have quite a sorted history on this board (I remember you under the "Daytona 24" name also). As I mentioned in my last post, take your "crap" someplace else because the good people on Rennlist do not seem to be interested.

Don't bother with a response as I am not interested and please do not send me any additional "PM's".

Cool

Wow… had to read the whole thread… Pcar comments, imho, are spot on and presented without any disrespect.

I share the same concerns with Porsche not building their cars (engine and transmission) to the same specs of what they race. Like they used to do. And I too worry about how the new cars will hold up over time. Maybe the new 987 and 997 will fair better as their interiors seem to be better built than those on the 986 and 996.

Do I still love the marquee? Absolutely.

Am I furious because they are putting out throw away engine and trannies instead of race-derived parts in the new cars? Absolutely. It feels like they are cheating us to get better $numbers. Only real option is a GT3, GT2, or a TT… If they would take the same engines in the base cars and race them, factory backed, problems faces by a few members here would be addressed and the overall quality of the car sold to the public would improve. It would also shut up a few of us on the new cars not having direct link to the racing heritage (again, with the exception of the GT3, GT2, or a TT).

Would I buy a Boxster S or a 997? Yes. Does not hide the fact that I love the looks and feel of these cars.

they're the ones looking for a fight, all you need to do is criticize their precious boxsters/996s, and suddenly they'll scream "take your insults elsewhere" or "you're a troll" or "come to my track so i can beat you"

tiresome

Anyway, obviously some people agree, some disagree... that's fine, I guess we can all draw our own conclusions.

Trolls, enthusiasts, whiners, whatever....At least it was one of the liveliest threads on the 987 board so far. If people can just keep to opinions and facts without resorting to personal attacks then anything they want to say is cool with me.
