Arrow Cayman's fog lights

When I saw the car at the focus group a while back, the one thing that EVERYONE commented on was that the fog lights looked out of place. I just realized that they're almost identical to the VW Bug fog lights. I bet that the Cayman will get a nicer face in its first makeover/revision. But that probably won't happen until 2010 at the earliest.

I have a feeling most of the Porsche tuners will run wild with the Cayman. I bet the Gemballa and Techart bumpers will be great. (not to mention rumors of the monsterous Ruf version planned...)

Im sure there will be plenty of great alternatives for that bumper.

IMO by far the weakest part of the Cayman's design are the stupid fog lights. I only hope the tuners do something about it.

Excellence (Sept 05) also pans the fogs - mentioning the new beetle and the Mazda 3.

Agreed, the Boxster S bumper would look nice on the Cayman.

Something cleaner would have worked just as well as something aggressively sporty. The side lines of the Cayman are virtually identical to the old 550 coupe. Putting a bumper with similar design heritage would have really brought the car out nicely I think. Something different than the current 911 and Boxster.

While I don't disagree, isn't this what Porsche has done? The foglights immediately distinguish the Cayman from the 911 and Boxster. I'm sure the lights on the 550 coupe were kept in mind. It's easy to forget the coupe's rather blunt front bumper (err, fender) treatment.

It's also worth noting that there were only a handful of 550 coupes ever built (maybe 3 or 4?) and these were hand built to order. They were all a bit different.

BTW, I saw 550.01 at Parade concours in Hershey. The engine opened INTO the cockpit -- there was no cover or insulation. Drivers complained of claustrophobia and 'almost unbearable' noise and heat! It would've been a punishing ride.

Yeah, but the shape of the bumper is still Boxster/911, just with the added foglights. And yes those are in resemblence as well to the 550. What i was thinking was a bumper more in the lines of a 904 or the middle section of that 550. ANd having different grill openings all together. A difference face, not a variation on a theme.
Either way, its a beautiful car, and i tihnk Porsche has a winner no matter what happens. I hope this car ends up getting a decent run life like the other models.

Reading the ad . . . . "dynamism"? More advertising gobbledygook. . . "Dynamic" is one of those words whose meaning has been lost by being carelessly overused. Kind of like saying an engine has "sparkling" performance, or we're having "tremendous" weather today. "Elegant" is another word that has received similar treatment in recent years. bleh.
