Default To PASM or not to PASM?

I think of the 987 Boxster S as a pure sports car. Light weight and no frills ie dont bother with the Bose system and keep it basic with the alcantara seats (more lateral grip thru the corners).

Keep the wheels at 18inch and obviously have the 6speed manual transmission. I'm not even sure if xenon lights is a must for me.

The thing is this: wouldn't opting for the PASM take away the pure driving experience?

Do we really need it to go faster or is it more a safety feature? Some people want it just because it lowers the car and looks better.

Any thoughts?

I wouldnt get the car without it. Getting PASM might be a no no for a driving purist but I feel it allows you to get a lot of performance out of the car without really feeling like your pushing the limit.

brembo: A similar question has been discussed in the "987S/CaymanS options" thread at this forum. You might find the responses interesting. I think it's too late to find a "pure sports car" in the Porsche line, or in most other lines for that matter. Of course, the un-pure, computer-controlled sportscars are quicker, safer, easier to drive fast, and more comfortable, than the old pure sportscars.

IMHO, the closest things I know to "pure sports cars" that are AFFORDABLE AND AVAILABLE in the Porsche line are non-street legal (e.g. pure track) cars and include the following types: '70s to early '80s 911s; the 914-6; Cup and some GT-designated cars. Other than that, Porsches (albeit terrific cars) are too heavy and laden with comfort/compliance and electronic gizmos to be "pure sports cars".

I'm sure these comments will spark some additional life into this thread!

having learned from my first one, i ordered my 2nd Box S as follows:

PASM
Sport Chrono
wind block
heated seats
18"
blk/blk/blk

the pasm and sport make the car one of the best sports cars in handling, i would not buy an S w/o.. the 19's have no performance value. heated seats and windblock are functional with top down.

i skipped all the other $$$$options$$$

perhaps i should have expatiated --

having fun finding 19" tyres? that is negative performance value, especially at 1200/set -- as much as stradale tyres!!! just a little ridiculous on a 55k car....

and no one has proven that 19"s outhandle 18's, the opposite actually. the lighter wheels may be lighter but i'd still take the 18's. price/value better on tyres and the wheels and tyre choice.

PASM is fantastic, I can't recommend it highly enough, I have the 19" Sport Design wheels too and the set up is brilliant.

uncle boboni-

there is one R tyre for Strad, and that is it. they're not too bad, and $1200/set at tyre rack seems cheap for the Strad, even if the same $ seems pricy for a Boxster S.

NB.: Bob, tyre rack does not show systems on the site, but they had them in stock a few weeks ago when i called... but i dont need them yet!! i get 4,000 miles/set occasional track use. my pal who runs at spa however, used 11 sets in 10,000 k, and 10 sets of brake pads and wait til you see what Strad$$$ pads$$$ cost$$$$! [i presume 430 will be the same]

k.org -- 18's vs same weight 19's [to isolate to the size issue], you bring the wheels and we'll go to streets of willow and wind the titz off
