LOL!! I just don't think that will happen. Porsche made sure they engineered the cars that way. Even with the Cayman, stock spec for stock spec, the Cayman S will never beat the 997 given equivalent drivers. Lower HP is only the tip of the iceberg on how they make sure of that. As Delesh put it, "why, Porsche, why?"

Delesh, I was egging you on to see what mods you would do, and I would copy you . Suspension, as you alluded to, certainly would be on the top of my list. If the C4S is any indication, the 987S will need more negative camber than what you can get with stock, even if it's just to prolong track tire life. I need to get more seat time so I can appreciate any improvements, though. Maybe next year.

schvetkaaks, I hate those blue tapes. Fingers crossed, haven't found a need for them. The signature pic is courtesy of Chads in the 996 board. It's ancient, but it's the best pic of the C4S I have, especially after Chad worked with it. I do have solo pics, but not with the same drama. Maybe with the 987S I can get lucky and have a pro photographer at the next event. Anyway, DE is an ongoing process of learning, and I always appreciate the presence of an expert in the passenger seat.

I've seen that mentioned in Excellence, but other than the 'Best Sports Car' article in Road and Track (?) I haven't seen the evidence anywhere. Would love to read those reports.

In the May issue of EVO the 987S turned a faster time than the 997. A good read.

No, I did not know that the 987S turned better times. Evo and Excellence, huh? I'll check those out. Maybe we'll have kill stories then!

Excellent read. But, you kinda get the feeling that the Boxster S would win only in a short autocross type track where it's cornering makes up for it's other performance shortcomings realtive to the 997. Both novice and expert drivers opting for the 911 if they had the dough.

Obviously, a better driver in a shorter twistier track and we'll have 997 kill stories. Equivalent drivers, average road course, well, different story.

I'm glad BeaveRun is a short twisty course, heh-heh-heh. Now, I gotta look for a lesser driver in a 997

6.2 seconds in a Boxster S with 6-speed??? WHAT? Frankly I'm also surprised they all chose the 997, but it does have more power and when you get that rear to plant in an exit it's a helluva lot of fun

Yes, they chose the 997, but when you read the article they clearly feel the 987 is a better drivers car and seem to be making excuses as to why they feel the 997 is better. Shouldn't it be the other way around? They said they liked the "challenge" of the 997 because it wasn't as well balanced. The 911 is an amazing car and I love it. It gives a markedly different experience than any other car, but the 987 is an awesomely capable car in its own right and I think the article bears that out as well. I really feel the Boxster, 986 and especially 987, are the worlds most underrated sports cars. People seem to dismiss it because it is not a 911 and that is not right. If only porsche would stop protecting the 911 and start giving the mid-engine cars some real ***** imagine what we could have! Thats why I am really hoping for a lightweight and more powerful Cayman. The article is good and has a predictable conclusion: the 987S is in most ways better than the 997 but the magic of the 911 wins. Not really a bad thing for 987 owners because it really comes down to the drivers preference and not lack of performance. After driving both and having my own preferences along with $20k more in my pocket thats pretty darn good in my book.
