The above are for bare bones basic ROW cars with no additional or optional equipment. I'd bet the weights would go up at least 50-100 lbs for the 2005 models. That's usually what happens with every new model introduced.

2005 Carrera: 3075 lbs
2005 Carrera S: 3131 lbs

Porsche is quoting a 0-60 for the new 280HP Boxster S of 5.2 seconds. That's significantly faster than the 5.7 second time quoted for the 2004 Boxster S (5.6 seconds for the 550 SE).

I guess the coupe is not going to materialize? Still a nice package , with a hard top a real nice package. So they found more hidden ponies with the same displacement. I wounder how many more are still hidden in there?

I like the interior of the new car, minus the heating/ac vents. those just look small and out of place in their overall shape. I must say the pricing is fair, for all the improvements over the last S there is a virtually non existent price jump, which is nice to see frmo porsche AG, who's main concern as of late has been profits . . .
I too think a clubsport version would make an awesome car, a GT3 of the boxster line in essence, but perhaps more hardcore even . . . hehe
And i am sure they could tune more than 280 hp out of it, no? Let's hope that a clubsport is in the works and that it does put out more than 280 and weigh less than 2700. I would sooo buy that
Otherwise, i think its a vast improvement over the last boxster, and hopefully that will reflect in the performance figures. Test drive, anyone?

Boxster coupe is on the way. It's rumored to be called the GTS, and to be available next summer.
BTW, the M3 comparison is valid. BMW gets 330 HP out of its 3.2L inline six. Porsche engineers could get equivalent from the Boxster 3.2--if the marketing department would let 'em!
