Default 987.2 3.4 Exhaust options

Hey everyone. New to me 09 boxster s manual, but it does not have the sport exhaust. What's the best option for some more volume? I have been reading just headers with sport cats or catless will be best due to all the restriction they have, but have not seen nay clips of stock non sport muffler with headers.

Any sound clips of examples would be great as well!

I just installed Fabspeed headers and have the stock non-sport exhaust. I'll make a quick recording for you.

Link to a Startup in Garage

Hopefully this link works. Ignore all the lights on the dash. I just replaced the battery and the computer wasn't happy about it. This is the sound of a fabspeed headers and the stock exhaust on a 987.2.

I can post some on track video with the mic near the exhaust if it's helpful.

Do you have more sound clips? I was thinking about doing catless headers with the non sport oem exhaust on my 987.2 Boxster S

I have Cayman R mufflers with the Carnewal modification and Fabspeed tips on my car. The pipework is larger bore than stock and it's a direct swap. I doubt it makes much difference to power but isn't much louder at idle, while having a nice howl at high revs and no drone.

Rather than spending a small fortune ($1,500-4,000) on overly expensive exhausts and headers for these cars, many of which can be quite loud and drony, I'd suggest removing the plastic plate that covers a large portion of the intake behind the driver's side vent and then adding a dry performance air filter like something from AFE. It's a cheap ($110 for the filter) and fast way to add some much needed sound to these cars. Both of these mods will create a bit more induction noise and wail, especially above 4500rpms and under heavy load. Since the intake inlet sits in very close proximity of your ears, you can hear it quite a bit as will everyone else around your car when it's under full boil. The banshee scream from 6000-7400rpms is pretty amazing. In normal driving, it's sedate and not much louder than stock.

By far the best bang for the buck is going with the Carnewal modded header/cat assembly. Carnewal removes the restrictive pre-cats/cat assemblies and replaces them with high flow 200 cell cats. That's it. This mod does two things:

1) Adds legit power across the entire powerband and doesn't throw a CEL.
2) Adds some nice exhaust noise without needing to replace the catback.

The mod is very similar to the mods we did to 3.0 liter 1995-2001 Nissan VQ motors. We yanked the restrictive y-pipe with pre-cats and replaced with a non-precat y-pipe and then ran just the basic cat. This mod was good for 10whp/15wtq. The Carnewal mod does about the same.

This is what I did on my '09 2.9 but I Carnewal-modified the rear section first (was too quiet and then went with the modified manifolds). Sounds great, no drone, no CEL's and maintains a stock look, if that's important to you.

Did you notice any improvement in power/response once adding the Carnewal headers?

Break any bolts taking out the headers?

Yes and yes, but I did a tune at the same time. My indy guy did the install and did break a few, but I bought all new hardware anyway beforehand.
