I am a new 987.2 owner and very happy. I've put about 1300 miles on the car which had 30K on it when I bought it 4 days ago. The throttle feels a bit laggy to me. I'm quite sure this is just the way the car is designed. Since the car lacks sport mode, I'd like to hear from anyone who may be using an aftermarket device to make the throttle just a bit more responsive. RaceChip makes a plug and play product called the XLR5. I have a Dinan product in my BMW that makes a big difference in the responsiveness.
Im looking for input from those who have real world experience. Thanks
These are a very common "upgrade" to the drivability of these cars (both .1 and .2). There are various options from different manufacturers, I got one to try (I was skeptical) from Amazon on sale a few years back for about $50. I used it initally in my 06 Boxster S and have since transferred it to my 07 Cayman. EVERY 987 needs one!
I've had no issue with my $50 one.
I have a Sprint Booster in my 987.2 and I can highly recommend it. It greatly improves the feel and drivability of the car, especially when doing things like rev matching downshifts. Do a search, you'll find lots of positive experiences.

Julian - which model are you using? It may be in your Amazon order history? Big price difference between your suggestion and the Sprint Booster. I'm sitting in Topeka waiting out large hail in Colorado before moving on tomorrow.
If you are just driving on the street the sprint booster type devices will be all you need.
If you want to go to the track, then it can become advantageous to install original sport mode instead as it also improves the PSM.

Agreed. I'd love to install the OE sport mode and get the improved PSM, but not for $1000. This is a road car for spirited canyon carving. I wouldn't want to risk compromising reliability with a really cheap accessory, but I'm trying to thoroughly research before settling on the sprint booster.

Here it is, I appear to have had it since July 2022.
the ad has a listing of compatible vehicles as well. https://a.co/d/4fRip4m
No matter which one you get, when you install it the factory connector has a finicky sliding lock piece that you can't really see. I recommend you just unmount the gas pedal from the car its only a very simple one minute job so you can turn the pedal assembly over and see how the connector unlatches. I broke it on my Boxster (but that didn't stop it all from working properly), was much easier the second time in the Cayman
I have a 987.2 Cayman S. I bought it a year ago and have put about 5K miles on it since. I have two modifications:
- Sprint Booster. I run it on sport 3 which is a very mild increase in throttle response.
- DSC Sport Controller for PASM
Other than that my car is totally stock. The Sprint Booster is a nice upgrade for short money. The DSC Sport Controller is the best mod ever if you have PASM.
I have 987.2 BS 6sp and have found the throttle plenty responsive and very easy to heel toe and blip… have you all tried running some injector cleaner first and / or cleaning throttle body and MAF?

Another vote for Sprint Booster; perfect fix. Unit is plug n play with a wide range of user tunability.
My 2011 Cayman Base 6MT has Sport Chrono and even in Sport, the throttle was fairly laggy. I got the Sprint Booster a year ago and love it. I run the car in Sport with the Sprint Booster set in the Sport 2 setting.
Another happy Sprint throttle boost user (3.5 yrs). The response is adjustable so you can get just the right feel for you. Agree there is a definite need for this mod and the DSC control modular for the PASM if you got it.
These 2 mods made the car respond and handle like I expected, not like what I got from a nicely speced 987.2 BS (a bit disappointing)
Also both mods are plug and play so they can be removed with no ill effects
