Engine issues
So, I have a 987.1 2007 Cayman S. 74k miles 3rd owner
Car has a baffled deep pan from ln engineering.
intake/headers/exhaust tune and ipd/gt3 tb
suspension mods
girodiscs
new clutch and flywheel
basically everything I could do for a road/track day car that sees the occasional weekend drive and track days.
I went to Daytona recently, fresh oil change liquimoly plus ceratec. No bore scoring issues that are audible or known.
I was on my 2nd hard lap and heard a thunk and lost engine power. Car cut off I pulled over. No smoke.
stupidly I tried to crank it and it just went click, click. Then no more clicks even.
oil wasnt low when I checked.
I pulled spark plug 1 to see if it was covered in oil from a potential AOS failure (oem unit) unsure of age I’m the 3rd owner. Spark plug was clean.
my next step is to pull all plugs and try turning crank by hand as well as removing the intake runners in case AOS failure is still a potential.
I think the first thing I’m going to do is pull the oil filter and cut it up to check for metal.
I’ve spun bearings in a car, but it didn’t seem anything like that.
anything else to look for? Could a pulley on an assc. Fail and lockup? Starter locked up?
oil or water pump failures?
my fear is the motor is toast, just seems odd I’d spin a bearing with the deeper oil pan w baffles and extra oil capacity. From what I’ve heard the symptoms aren’t IMS failure I don’t think.
I was really expecting the spark plug to be covered in oil from AOS failure, I guess I need to dig deeper.
it did say low oil pressure afterwards when I had the key in the ignition and it wasn’t clicking

Try putting it in gear and pushing the car to see if the engine is totally locked up. Or remove the front cover and put a wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt. Just to get a quick determination if the engine is locked up.
Sorry to hear it. Maybe just drain the oil and pull the sump? Should tell you what's going on pretty quick, I'd think.
When I was researching deep sumps on various threads, several people claimed they still weren't enough for track driving. Especially on cars that were modified to have higher than stock g-loads.
If a rebuild is your future, I'd guess an upgraded engine to help avoid the common issues would give your car significantly more value over a stock 3.4.
