I assumed more than half were PDKs for the reason you mentioned with it being the new hot thing as well as it being a big deal if the manual take up these days for a car is more than 50% (GT3, MK5 Supra, WRX).

I looked for a 2.9 base specifically as well due to risk of bore scoring, port-injection vs DFI in the S, slightly shorter 1-2 gearing, and cheaper purchase price. I also did not want the tan interior and found an arctic silver/black interior example w/ 6MT.
I could live with silver/black. Nice score!

The number I've heard was about 70% PDK on the 987.2s

As far as the 10%-15% being 6MT that i was referring to was just 2011 Cayman S manuals sold in the US (506 cars). I can not remember where i found that number. Certainly 30% 6MT for the whole 987.2 run is possible.

From a Planet 9 post -

Is the following for USA Deliveries of 987.2 Cayman (not North America)
2009: 1,966
2010: 1,322
2011: 1,377
2012: 462 (a rare specimen indeed!)

Cayman S production numbers...
2006 - 5,651 (5,367 USA / 284 Canada)
2007 - 3,444 (3,361 USA / 83 Canada)
2008 - 2,562 (2,418 USA / 144 Canada)
2009 - 792 (725 USA / 67 Canada)
2010 - 614 (543 USA / 71 Canada)
2011 - 539 (506 USA / 33 Canada)
2012 - 149 (125 USA / 24 Canada)

Porsche racing green. Definitely a unicorn especially with the manual.

When I was looking for my .2 Cayman, there were anywhere between 5 and 7 for sale country-wide, and most of them were black. I also didn't want a black one, so when silver my car popped up on BaT, I jumped on it. Yes, I know that silver is pretty common on these cars, but I just couldn't find one that was a real color.

And it wasn't black!

Bought a white 987.2 loaded Boxster S. Wasn't my choice color but it wasn't black. Black is not a color. It's a job.
Sold my black car because I was tired of looking at a dirty car 1 hour after it was washed.

Based on my personal experience, Artic White fades to a nice cream color as you let it go unwashed

As mentioned above, requires a lot of scanning for available cars and the ability to lock up the right car really fast. For example... the Boxster I'm driving now was finishing PPI and I bought the car the very next morning.

Frustrating when you don't see many options out there, for sure. The wait should be worth it though.

Good luck!

Great advice, thank you. I can be patient (I think!).
