Question Seeking 987.1 Crankshaft factory specs

HELP ME!!

I am rebuilding my 2006 987.1 Cayman S and I need the crankshaft measurements where the rods and bearing attach. I'm trying to determine if there has been any damage from factory.

Porsche won't give them to me and I can't seem to find them online. Does anyone have the specs for me? Fingers crossed.

if you're talking about the connecting rod journals on the crank, then that information should be readily available. machine shops that work on porsche engines absolutely MUST have that information. that's where i'd start looking. dealerships don't actually do anything so technical and won't have a clue, IME. contact LN engineering. they rebuild engines...

Thanks for the advice. If you can point me in the direction of them that would be great. The machine shop doesn't have them, RSR Sports Cars (Adelaide) doesn't have them and Porsche Adelaide (who do do rebuilds) will not give me them.

I'll try emailing LN. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't see a Cayman S 987.1 on the the list.

I actually can't believe how hard this is to find. Any more suggestions of places I can find it?

Update: I received a reply from LN Engineering and there do not have the specs I am chasing either. How are these companies rebuilding engines?

I am curious about "I'm trying to determine is there was damage at the factory".
BTW, Porsche isn't really into the engine rebuilding business. They are happy to sell you a short block for $22,000.
I checked the shop manual for a 987.1 Cayman. Nothing in there regarding crankshaft journal sizes, much less tolerances.

Thanks for looking in the shop manual.

I am ultimately trying to make sure there is no damage and that it is still in spec. The confusion about the' damage at the factory' might just be the way I wrote my original post. I want to make sure there is not damage now by comparing it to the factory specs.

Can you explain 'much less tolerances' to me?

Certainly-
I just meant that I couldn't find the nominal crankshaft journal diameters. "Much less tolerances" is to say I couldn't find tolerances on the diameters. In my Porsche 944 shop manuals, they give the journal sizes and an acceptable tolerance range, which is what I suspect is what you are looking for. Just generically, a clearance of 0.002" to 0.006" might be a typical tolerance when checking the bearing clearances with micrometers or Plastigauge.

Oh, understand now. It's annoying that this info is so hard to find.

Thanks for the 944 tolerance/ clearance info. I'm unsure how to progress from here as it's a crucial thing to get right.

porsche engines have numerous names and the same engine are used in multiple models. i think you'll find it's there. you'll need to do some research...i did.

hint: the big end diameter on a connecting rod for your engine is what you're looking for...i think
