Default Power Steering Pump (video)

Loud groaning on start up that gets worse when adding steering. After a few minutes once the car warms up it stops. Can’t get to the car to check the fluid at the moment, but *if* the fluid is fine probably the PS pump going dead?

sounds like it's affected by the RPM or the RPM affects it. because they are mechanical, i would start with the easiest to test and most probable causes, the belt, a pulley or the fluid. but, hey, i'm no expert!

Dry as a bone with no obvious sign of leaks.

maybe it was flushed, and someone forgot to refill it afterwards. it happens... hope it hasn't been ruined.

BTW, i take it the feet aren't in the shot as a size reference. if so, that's one heck of a dipstick!

I’m 6’5”, so there’s quite a distance between the dipstick and my feet!

Added fluid last night, turned the wheel lock to lock a dozen times, went for a drive with no issues and fluid this AM was at the same level, still with no signs of a leak.

Did this fix the sounds coming from your power steering?

I had similar issue as you. Refilled my power steering. No leaks, but it still groans.

Glad your problem was solved, but it is odd to have the pump reservoir to be empty without a leak. Did you check the steering rack to confirm there's no leak or just around the reservoir/pump?

I never checked for a leak. Had the car for another 18 months and never had the issue again, and have since sold it.

I'm afraid I may experiencing this leak around the steering rack. See my other thread.
