Instrument cluster lcd
987 instrument lcd
Just picked up my 987 from the dealer for service and I see this on the instrument cluster lcd. The lcd did not have these stuck pixels when I dropped it off, and now they are saying it will be $2900 to fix?!???
anyone have any insight into what this is?

That’s display delamination. You can see it even with the cluster turned off. Pretty common for 987/997 and 986/996. We charge $399 for the 987/997 repair.

I didn't see the tutorials, but since I have 987 as well - it looks to me, that the trim below the cluster needs to be pulled towards the driver and it will expose 2 bolts holding the cluster in place. Same idea is for Audi A4 B5, A6 C5.

i have recently replaced the intrument cluster face from black/white to red/white. it involved removing the instrument cluster. i found a number of forums that addressed the procedure.
experience has shown me that removing the plastic trim that sits above the steering column and below the instrument cluster (as mentioned) is the most difficult part of the procedure. it needs to be squeezed, from an awkward position, in two directions at the same time and pulled in a third direction. ....not easy. especially so if you've got the tan/beige interior, in that the plastic parts of all interiors are black, and porsche PAINTS the non-black interior's plastic parts with cheap paint that scratches very easily. plan on researching touch up paint for those unlucky enough to feel it necessary to pry on them.
