Unhappy Because my wife wouldn't understand ...:(

Hello, I'm new to these meetings, having previously owned a beautiful 986S ... my wife lamented about not having a back seat etc. 996/997 are too $$$ so I traded it for a 2003 M3 convertible. The M3 is a very nice looking car. That's all I can say about it. The fit and finish is poor. The horsepower is sweet (similar feeling as my 986S). I traded IMS fears for VANOS/Sub-frame/rod-bearing fears. End result? I have been unhappy with the M3 ... missing my 986S (I actually checked ads to see if I could buy it back ... Who DOES that?!?!?).

Life is too short to be unhappy in a car that you don't want. I have lost so much money trying to right a wrong (bought the M3 online - no PPI and when it was delivered, it was so terrible I immediately traded it for another clean looking, local, M3 - at a loss). I'm driven by emotion and will act to fix a mistake, hence I'll never be a rich man, hence no 997

So now I found a 987S that is clean and again, spending more money to put it in my garage but I feel happy again. I realise most of you will think: Why is this guy putting his journal entry in this forum?
It just felt good to explain that I really enjoy this mid-engined thing and the fit and finish of these cars is actually excellent. Thanks for allowing me to be part of the new (to me) 987 community!
(and, yes, my wife has no idea ...).

Cheers!

good luck on keeping it hidden from the bride.

i think a few pics of the car (and her) and methods used to deceive her could be of interest here. BTW, authenticity where the pics of the wife are concerned are optional.

Yeah, I'll share how that goes ... or maybe ask for any 'couch surfing' opportunities
Here's a dealer pic - my 986S was Guards Red ... love that color. This one is not bad when you see it in person - actually a nice color scheme.

I’m in Calgary and was looking at that exact car. I thought it was a pretty good price too. Congratulations

Thanks Ken, I'm looking forward to the spring! There is a much better selection of used Porsches in the US but the prices have increased considerably in the last 18 months, so by the time you import and handle duty etc. you're not ahead by much. There was one notable 997 in BC at a very low price - but it was on a salvage title ...

Lol - It is! I needed to physically see it first. It's not as bad as I thought ... the decals may make cleaning interesting. In the summer sun, it'll be grand!

How much was it? What is the downside of a salvage title?

Typically, the value of a car with a salvage title will be much less, in the case of a Porsche it would be around 50% of a car with a clean title.
