Default Wheels for 2012 987.2 Cayman

I have a base 2012 cayman and currently have the stock 17" wheels.
In need of new tires and I am finding it quite difficult to find new tires with the asymmetrical front and back in the 17's.
Thinking of bumping up to 18" wheels and am a bit confused as to what will work when buying used.
Any suggestions of what years or models will work without having to change anything. Just wanting to mount them on with no fuss.
Thinking 18 x8 57 for front and 18 x 9 43 on back.
Thanks

These are the Ronal S...
F: 8x18 ET57 987.362.136.01
R: 9x18 ET43 987.362.138.01

18s are a good compromise for available rubber, price, and ride comfort...

There are plenty of 18" OEM and aftermarket wheels for sale in the rennlist marketplace for 987. Take your pick.

Agreed on the used, or new old stock, 18" factory wheels. That's what I did, the NOS, picking up a set of 18" Cayman S II wheels for my 2012 Cayman that came with the 17" wheels.

The other great option is to head onto the Tirerack.com and pick up a set of 18" super lightweight OZ Alleggerita wheels with tires and TPMS sensors in the colour of your choosing. I'd love to see what a gold set would look like on your car!

Thanks for your answers.
My next question is do the need to be Cayman S II specific or will any 987 18" wheels work?

Either will work fine. I'm not sure if there were any changes other than the style. Kuro Neko's photo above shows the 987.1 Cayman S wheel on a 987.2.

I assume you have to stay within the 987 family?

While wheels and wheel size is a personal choice, I recommend 19" wheels. They fill the wheel wells better, IMHO, and the tire selection is better than 18", at least on Tire Rack.

I would encourage you to go through threads like this one and see what you like best, Then track down a set. Also, Apex makes some nice looking 18" wheels and will be starting another group buy sometime in the near future. Finally, I found a new set of BBS CH-R's on eBay for a price I was willing to pay.

For a 987 Cayman enjoyed on the street, here are the two configurations I would suggest from our wheel line which will fill out the fenders and improve handling without requiring suspension modifications:

18"
Front: 18x8.5" ET45 - 245/40-18
Rear: 18x10" ET36 - 275/40-18 (or 275/35-18)

19"
Front: 19x9" ET50 - 245/43-19
Rear: 19x10" ET40 - 275/35-19

Here is a link to our 987 Wheel & Tire Fitment Guide which may be quite helpful.
