Good evening. I'im writing from Barcelona Spain.
I have a 2008 Cayman S manual that has a broken engine (M97 / 21), and I am considering installing an engine from a 996 Carrera 4S (M96 / 23). Do you know if such an adaptation can be made? Thanks in advance!

I've never personally heard of going backward to a 996 motor - I would assume this could be difficult for ECU-related issues (and perhaps emissions depending on local laws), I do know many have done the 3.8/997.1S swap though

Good morning, I base myself on this information that I have read in pelican.
"Boxster & Cayman 2003-08 (2.7L / 2.9L / 3.2 S)
That's why I wanted to ask you questions in the forum.
Thanks
"Boxster & Cayman 2003-08 (2.7L / 2.9L / 3.2 S)
- The 2003 and later Boxster and Cayman cars can accept any 996/997 3.6 Carrera engine, and any Boxster or Cayman engine from 2003 and later. The best solution for more horsepower is to swap in a 3.6 or 3.8 996 or 997 engine. You can swap in any replacement engine of the same displacement from 2003-08 without having to remap the DME. (I.E. a 2003 Boxster 2.7L with a blown motor can accept a 2005 2.7L engine with no remapping needed)."
That's why I wanted to ask you questions in the forum.
Thanks

You might want to read up on your local laws regarding engine swaps, as I know lots of authorities don't like you putting in engines of an older generation than the chassis (emissions etc). If you have a 987.1 (which you do), then you can do a 997.1 swap, but beyond that when they start getting DFI, then that complicates things. It can be done, just not very efficiently or easily.

Thanks mate. It is precisely from that article where I have quoted the text before. I have understood that a cayman can be gswap a 3.6 of 996 or 997, right?
I wanted to know if any of you have done it to have the necessary details.
