I ended up having to 'very loosely' attach everything - and slowly tighten it up, in place. Otherwise, this was a super stressful fit up...

if you had taken my advice you would have got the one made for the 987

Unfortunately, that one is about 500 bucks more. And I was already 'pushing my luck' with getting the one I got. lol

Definitely aligned. And the fit is actually really solid. It was just a level of 'fiddling' to get it set up, that was somewhat nerve-racking. It didn't help that my Cayman roof is beyond flawless, and I really wanted to keep it that way. haha

Definitely useful thread here. It appears the 987 rack is NLA from most sources, so the 996/997 rack might be the sole choice if buying new. For those of you that have either, what do you use for a roof box and does the rack give off wind noise?

If anyone is looking, I've got the original 987 roof transport system sitting in a box in the garage with a tire transport track to mount on it. I was going to use it to transport track tires but I ended up with a trailer instead. PM if you're interested.

Hi Ubermensch, I stumbled across your post and I am looking for a rack myself. I don't have PM privileges but perhaps you can reach out to me?

RDJ decided to go a different direction, so here's a post with the details if anyone else is interested in purchasing the roof transport system, bike racks, or a tire carrier.

Thanks.

Not a dumb question at all, but a bit late since I sold all of the items. Yes, you can fit all four wheels/tires in the Rhinorack AT1512. You do need to deflate the tires quite a bit, but it works without too much trouble.

Still available?! Just got my 987. I've been dreaming of a 987 with roof racks since high school. I'm 38 now. Not sure why I waited so long, but I can't wait to put on a clean set of racks on my baby... lmk
