Default Base model stereo question

Is it possible that my base 2007 Cayman has no factory amp? I'm replacing the head unit and wanted to look for the amp and see if it was possible to upgrade in the same spot. I looked under the passenger seat, nothing there. I tore the whole front trunk apart, nothing there. there is a bracket looking thing where the tool kit is hidden behind that panel but there is nothing on it. This is a base model and the head unit was a CDR24. Help!

Sure - the real base models had a radio with a built in amplifier. No external amp. Even the base PMS (no nav) models don't come with a seperaqte amplifier. Amps start with the Bose models - if it doesn't say Bose on your door woofers, you don't have an amp. Plus of this - it becomes much simpler to replace the current radio with a new radio (with built in amps). I'm quite happy with how mine sounds - it won't blast me out of the car, but it can be heard with the top down, and that's my primary requirement.

If I’m not mistaken (and I might be) Sound Package Plus cars also have an amplifier.

Thanks! Thats basically what I did. Installed a new BOSS elite series head unit, touchscreen with Bluetooth and CD/DVD player which is 320 watts and installed a BOSS 8" powered sub behind the drivers seat. Replaced the blown factory speakers in the doors with Alpine 6.5". and I am going to replace the corner dash tweeters with Memphis tweeters when they arrive. Right now is sounds great with the sub adding some much needed bass.

Thats correct, my 2009 has the non BOSE with PSP package and

ASK amp under passenger seat, powering the 7 speaker front only system. Still trying to figure out how to add the rear channels to that since i have wired up speakers in the factory spots. 2007/08 should have the amp in frunk for same system.
